Role Description We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Documentation Specialist to support our product, engineering, and marketing teams by creating, maintaining, and improving high‑quality technical and user-facing documentation. This role will backfill a critical position and provide direct support to ongoing documentation needs across platforms and products, while partnering closely with subject-matter experts to ensure content is accurate, accessible, and up to date. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, technically proficient, comfortable working across multiple tools, and able to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities - Create, edit, and maintain technical documentation, user guides, release notes, and internal knowledge base content for multiple product lines - Partner with product managers, engineers, marketing, and support teams to gather, validate, and translate technical information into clear, user‑friendly documentation - Maintain documentation standards, templates, style guides, and publishing workflows - Manage document lifecycle updates tied to product changes, releases, and seasonal readiness - Publish and maintain content in Confluence, SharePoint, and web-based platforms - Utilize AI tools to improve drafting efficiency, clarity, consistency, and content maintenance - Capture and edit screenshots, visuals, and diagrams to support written content - Ensure documentation meets accessibility and usability standards, including ADA‑compliant PDFs where applicable - Support documentation needs across TaxAct and Drake product ecosystems - Assist with cross-team documentation initiatives and knowledge-sharing efforts Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience - 3–5+ years of experience in technical documentation or a related role - Strong writing, editing, and information design skills - Ability to manage multiple documentation efforts simultaneously while meeting deadlines - Comfortable navigating ambiguity and evolving requirements - High attention to detail and commitment to quality, consistency, and accessibility Requirements - Experience with any combination of the following documentation & content tools: - Adobe Acrobat Pro - Adobe InDesign - MadCap Flare and MadCap Central - Snagit or comparable screenshot/screen capture tools - WordPress - Confluence - SharePoint - Office Product Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) - Project & Collaboration Tools: - Jira - GitKraken - Zoom - AI & Automation: - ChatGPT, Cursor, or other AI-assisted writing tools for drafting, editing, summarization, and content optimization - Product & Domain Experience: - Knowledge of taxes or experience with Tax Preparation Software - Prior experience documenting software, SaaS, or technical products strongly preferred - Experience supporting cross-functional teams, including technical and non‑technical stakeholders Nice to Have / Highly Preferred - Accessibility Document Specialist certification or equivalent training focused on ADA‑compliant PDFs - Demonstrated experience creating and remediating accessible documents (PDFs, web content, and user documentation) - Experience supporting tax, financial, or compliance-related products - Familiarity with version control concepts and release‑driven documentation updates - Experience working in Agile or hybrid project environments Benefits - Supportive, open, and inclusive atmosphere - Team that values your contributions
