Chief Development Officer
New Story
Role Description At a time of exciting growth, we are hiring for a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead fundraising strategies that will greatly enhance our capacity to innovate and scale new solutions. Sitting on our Executive Team and working cross-functionally across the organization, the CDO will drive the strategy and growth of our two primary revenue streams: philanthropy and impact investment. This is a unique opportunity for an exceptional leader to build upon our strong foundation of donors and make a meaningful contribution to New Story's vision of tackling the housing crisis. You can help New Story to raise $50m+ in philanthropy and hundreds of millions in impact investment in the next eight years. - In partnership with the CEO, create a multi-year fundraising plan inclusive of a blended revenue mix of philanthropic support (high-net-worth individuals, corporations, and foundations) and impact investments. - Build and manage a pipeline of new donors and partners; set and pursue short- and long-term objectives and key results (OKRs) for each fundraising channel. - Supervise, grow, mentor, and develop a team that is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with major individual donors, institutional funders, and impact investors. - Work alongside the Impact Team to develop a deep understanding of program strategy in order to find mutual alignment and set achievable outcomes and metrics for grants and partnerships. - Partner with the Creative team to design a cohesive experience for donor engagement and loyalty; oversee the creation of compelling portfolios, pitch decks, and other donor-facing materials. - Oversee smooth back-office operations, inclusive of high Salesforce utilization and consistent processes for donor data and moves management tracking, pipeline management, and reporting. - Advise on and support CEO's and other key staff's portfolios of primarily individual donors with the capacity to give 7-figure gifts. - Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive team and Board of Directors and keep abreast of trends and innovations in the philanthropy field. - As a member of the Executive team, contribute to guiding overall organizational strategic direction, decision-making, prioritization, and goals. Qualifications - An enthusiastic champion for New Story’s mission and values. - A proven leader with experience with blended revenue models. - A “big picture” thinker with the ability to implement tactically. - A thoughtful relationship builder and effective communicator. - A supportive people leader who leverages strengths and brings teams together. - A well-organized, action-oriented, and systematic doer. Requirements - 15+ years of experience, including 5+ in a senior leadership role. - Track record of securing significant support from individuals, institutional funders, and impact investors. - Experience fundraising for international nonprofits doing systems-driven work is a plus. - Salesforce experience is a plus.
