Principal Engineer – Software Autonomy & Active Safety

Role Description Work within the Advanced Products engineering group on the development and testing of embedded software including: - Real-time control algorithms - Vehicle interfaces - Computer vision and sensor processing algorithms - Graphical user interfaces - Communication networks for driver assistance features and unmanned ground vehicles YOUR IMPACT: - Responsible for completion of a project or part of a project of moderate complexity on time. - May be responsible for overall project schedule and budget. - May be responsible for managing multiple priorities. - Performs more complex software development, architecture design, engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry engineering standards and processes. - Responsible for preparation and delivery of plans, designs, computation methods, and/or reporting. - Collaborate as needed with other engineering or business support disciplines internally as well as suppliers externally. - May have exposure to the external customers and/or industry organizations. - Provide guidance or mentorship to entry level engineers working on common projects. - Research, create, and update standard engineering methodology and procedures - best practices, etc. - Utilize model-based software tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, TargetLink, etc.; write embedded C and/or C++ software to configure and control hardware and provide APIs for application code. - Responsible for advanced vehicle system controls research, development, verification and validation, testing and production implementation. - Establish requirements (resources, equipment, estimates, test plans, and milestones) according to the needs of a project. - Responsible for developing control strategies in a virtual simulation environment using modeling tools (such as ADAMS, MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow, EASY 5 etc.) or hardware-in-the-loop simulators and transferring simulated strategies to vehicle testing and eventual production implementation. - Work with internal and external (industry consortiums, universities...) project teams on advanced control development efforts. - Develop and peer review software. - Process engineering information through CMMI level 3 procedures and software safety process. - Support proposal development with regards to acquiring appropriate funding for various advanced control development efforts. - Provide support and insight to engineering design teams as needed based on expertise. - Other duties as assigned. - Regular attendance is required. Qualifications - Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with five (5) or more years of related experience. - 5+ years of experience in programming embedded controllers in either C/C++, model based / Simulink, and/or PLC languages such as Structured Text. - 5+ years of experience with software testing, preferably with vehicle specific experience. - 3+ years of experience with graphical user interface software development, preferably with QT. - Experience developing networked communications (CAN Bus, Ethernet, V2V). - Familiarity with safety standards such as MIL-STD-882E, ISO 26262, IEC 61508. - Available for potential travel 10-20%. - Experience with version control, release management, and peer review systems and processes. Requirements - Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering. - Familiarity with C#, PLCs, Python, and SQL database in addition to embedded C/C++. - Specific experience in developing software for vehicle control systems, either on road or off highway. - Experience with Agile software development processes. - Experience using SysML to model systems and document architecture. - Experience with sensor systems including radar, LIDAR, and computer vision. - Excellent software system design skills. - Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. - Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records. - Windows programming experience. - UNIX/Linux programming experience. Pay Range $91,500.00 - $148,100.00 The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
