Role Description The Electrical Design and Test Engineer will support the space program located in Houston, TX. As an Electrical Design and Test Engineer in the Electrical, Data and Controls Section in the Operations and Test Department, you will perform the following duties in support of test facility operations and maintenance: - Support test electrical buildup and operations and produce required documentation. - Design and oversee the installation of low voltage power distribution systems. - Program PLCs or NI equipment, specify sensors, develop calibration curves. - Specify and initiate procurement of electrical and control system hardware. - Review and track engineering deliverables for project status reporting. - Resolve corrective actions as they arise. - Develop and maintain electrical and control system operating procedures. - Other duties as assigned. Qualifications - This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information. - Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering. - Must have 2+ years of recent and related work experience. - Understanding of electrical drawings. - Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC). - Proficiency using computers and interfacing them with controls systems. Requirements - BS degree in electrical, electronic or power engineering from an accredited engineering school (desired). - Familiarity with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures (desired). - Installation of sensors and instrumentation (desired). - Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs and programming software (desired). • Analyzes existing systems (unit level) and evaluates the suitability of the electrical design and components for the system. • Develops and documents system level electrical requirements based on unit requirements as well as various electrical and safety codes (not limited to UL /ETL, CE and local requirements) to assure that the equipment is safe and reliable. • Assures compliance of the electrical designs and applications to various codes. • Develops and documents electrical designs for equipment applications. • Peer-reviews other electrical engineer’s work and advises on alternative designs for safety, cost, reliability, and quality improvements. • Other duties as assigned by the manager.

• Lead the design and integration of SC1/Class 1E (safety-related) and SC2 and SC3 electrical systems • Perform complex electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting, and protective relay coordination using ETAP software using ANSI / IEC standards • Prepare electrical engineering deliverables such as Requirements Specifications, Electrical Load Lists, One-lines, Calculations, Schematics and 3-Line lines • Ensure deliverables are on-spec., on-budget, and on-schedule • Develop detailed procurement specifications for major components, including main transformers, switchgear, diesel generators, and UPS systems and collaborate with suppliers • Navigate regulatory requirements (CA-CNSC and US-NRC), support licensing processes, ensuring all designs meet nuclear-specific standards • Interface with transmission providers to manage Generator Interconnection Agreements and ensure grid stability compliance • Applications of codes and standards applicable to electrical systems design in the US and CA (e.g.; IEEE, IEC, CSA and NEC); European Union (e.g., IEC, EU)
