Job Description
Forward Deployed Engineer – Onboarding
AssemblyAI
• Own a portfolio of in-flight leads across AssemblyAI’s product lines, driving them from first API call to consistent production usage against a quarterly new-customer goal. • Reach out proactively the moment a developer’s usage ramps, diagnosing what’s blocking them from scaling and removing it before they go quiet. • Read unfamiliar customer codebases quickly and ship working patches alongside their engineers, debugging real-time audio, WebSocket, and latency issues directly in their service. • Tune model configurations for each use case—end-of-turn detection, keyterms, language coverage, async vs. real-time—and translate the tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike. • Run discovery and architecture conversations about customer use cases, knowing when to push back and when to lean in. • Steward technical wins through to commercial close: DPAs, MSAs, security reviews, stakeholder mapping, and multi-threading the buying team. • Hand off graduated accounts cleanly with the context and written history required for a smooth transition. • Aggregate lead feedback into structured signals for Product and Engineering, making sure the self-serve experience improves measurably because of the patterns you surface. • Build internal tooling—agents, dashboard, AI workflows—that help the team operate ahead of the wave as lead volume grows.
Job Requirements
- 2+ years of relevant experience as a software engineer, forward-deployed engineer, sales engineer, solutions architect, technical account manager, or similar customer-facing engineering role.
- Strong hands-on engineering skills—comfortable reading an unfamiliar Python or JavaScript/Node service, finding the bug, and writing the patch.
- Working fluency with real-time and streaming protocols, including WebSockets, audio pipelines, and latency budgets.
- Track record of carrying a number—net new customers, activation rate, expansion ARR, or similar—and consistently hitting it.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You’ll be the primary face of AssemblyAI in hundreds of customer Slack channels, email threads, and in-person or virtual meetings concurrently.
- Aggressive use of AI tooling in your own workflow (Claude Code, Cursor, Devin, custom agents); bonus if you’ve built or shipped your own.
- High sense of urgency and ownership, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent deals and context-switch frequently.
- Prior experience with voice AI, ASR, speech-to-text, telephony, or audio infrastructure is a plus.
Benefits
- 100% employer-paid benefits
- 401k match up to 4%

Role Description As Valent’s Founding Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work directly with customers to make Valent successful in the field. You will sit close to customer problems: - Understanding how compliance, quality, procurement, and operations teams actually work. - Mapping their document flows. - Configuring AI-assisted workflows. - Building integrations. - Debugging implementation issues. - Turning repeated customer needs into productized systems. This is not a traditional support role. It is not a pure consulting role either. You will: - Write code. - Work with product and engineering. - Talk to users. - Own deployments. - Help shape the product based on what customers actually need. The right person is technical, customer-facing, pragmatic, and comfortable operating in ambiguous environments where the path is not always fully defined upfront. What you’ll work on - Ingest and organize supplier documents, specifications, certificates, declarations, questionnaires, audit evidence, and regulatory files. - Configure AI-assisted workflows for document collection, evidence packet assembly, customer requests, audit preparation, and compliance follow-ups. - Build customer-specific automations, scripts, integrations, and internal tools where needed. - Work with users to understand current processes across email, spreadsheets, shared drives, ERPs, portals, and tribal knowledge. - Translate customer workflow complexity into product requirements and reusable product patterns. - Debug customer issues across data, workflows, UI, integrations, and AI outputs. - Help evaluate AI performance in real operating environments where accuracy, traceability, and trust matter. - Partner with engineering to turn field learnings into scalable product improvements. - Create implementation playbooks, onboarding flows, templates, and internal tooling that make future deployments faster. Qualifications - Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production systems. - Comfortable working directly with customers and asking good questions. - Ability to move fluidly between code, product thinking, debugging, implementation, and user conversations. - Comfortable working across the stack when needed. - Ability to write clean, maintainable code and make practical technical tradeoffs. - Care about reliability, usability, observability, and product quality. - Enjoy turning messy business processes into structured, usable software. - Clear communication in writing and in customer conversations. - Comfortable working remotely and taking ownership without needing every detail specified upfront. - Ability to overlap for part of the day with U.S. Eastern Time. - Desire to join early and help shape how the company builds, ships, and serves customers. Helpful experience - Enterprise SaaS implementation. - Forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or technical customer-facing roles. - Workflow automation. - Integrations with APIs, databases, ERPs, shared drives, email systems, or internal tools. - LLM applications, RAG systems, document AI, OCR, extraction, or classification. - React, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Postgres, or cloud infrastructure. - Compliance, supply chain, manufacturing, regulatory, procurement, or quality workflows. - Debugging ambiguous customer issues in production environments. - Building internal tools, scripts, or automation for operational teams. What makes this role different Valent is not building generic chatbots or demo-only AI tools. We are building AI for real operational work: - Collecting evidence. - Understanding documents. - Coordinating follow-ups. - Checking gaps. - Preparing for audits. - Helping teams execute workflows that currently live across email, spreadsheets, shared drives, ERPs, portals, and institutional knowledge. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will be one of the people closest to the customer reality. You will see where the product works, where it breaks, what users actually need, and what needs to become part of the core platform. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both building and deploying software, who likes talking to users, and who wants their engineering work to have direct customer impact. Why join - Work remotely from India on a U.S.-based enterprise AI product. - Join early enough to have meaningful influence over product, architecture, implementation, and culture. - Work directly with customers and see the impact of what you build. - Build AI into workflows where the value is operational, measurable, and immediate. - Work on hard problems at the intersection of AI, enterprise workflow, compliance, and manufacturing. - Help define what modern compliance operations software should look like. How to apply Send your resume, LinkedIn profile, GitHub, portfolio, or anything else that shows how you think and build. We are especially interested in examples of products, systems, customer deployments, integrations, automations, or AI workflows you have shipped. Please follow our LinkedIn company page so we know you are not a bot.
