• Design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure cloud-native infrastructure with a focus on AWS and Kubernetes. • Contribute to cloud migrations, security implementations, and DevOps best practices while supporting the reliability and performance of cloud environments. • Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver infrastructure solutions that align with application and business needs. • Continuously improve systems through automation, monitoring, and operational best practices, while growing technical skills and sharing knowledge within the team. • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and reusable Terraform modules, and design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitLab (GitLab CI/CD), using established patterns and reusable components to support consistent deployments across environments. • Design, deploy, and support Kubernetes environments on AWS EKS, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security of cloud workloads. • Implement and maintain core Kubernetes capabilities such as networking, ingress, storage, and cluster upgrades following established best practices. • Participate in proof-of-concept efforts for new tools and technologies, contributing hands-on implementation and feedback. • Follow and help maintain Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure standards, including upgrade processes, security configurations, and performance tuning. • Collaborate with application and platform teams to support cloud-native application deployments, containerized workloads, and microservices architectures. • Implement and maintain observability solutions using metrics, logs, and alerts to support monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational visibility. • Support cloud security initiatives by implementing access controls, encryption, and compliance requirements according to defined security standards. • Contribute to cloud migration and application modernization efforts by executing migration tasks and validating deployed solutions. • Participate in incident response and on-call rotations, helping diagnose issues, restore services, and improve operational reliability through post-incident learnings.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 6+ years of experience with Linux systems, cloud engineering, and DevOps practices
  • Understanding of cloud technologies, such as AWS or GCP
  • Ability to port on-prem python scripts to work in the cloud
  • Proficient in Docker & Kubernetes, with a good knowledge of its ecosystems
  • Security focused mindset
  • Experience with Terraform and Terraform modules
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) infrastructure, including GitLab CI/CD
  • A proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement and performance bottlenecks across services and levels of the technical stack
  • Know your way around the Linux shell
  • Git source code control

In this critical role, you will lead the technical implementation for our AWS CloudOps strategy, driving the adoption of modern operational practices across the organization. You will be responsible for architecting and implementing highly automated, reliable, and cost-efficient systems that support our production services, R&D initiatives, and corporate functions. The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineer with a deep passion for automation, a strategic mindset for system design, and proven experience mentoring and leading technical projects. This position is a hybrid role based out of our San Diego or South San Francisco office. We may also be open to remote for the ideal candidate. Responsibilities: Technical Leadership: Work with DevOps leadership to craft the roadmap for cloud operations, setting technical standards and best practices. Mentor and guide other engineers on the team, fostering a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement. Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Lead the design and implementation of key DevOps requirements and initiatives. Develop solutions using imperative interfaces such as the AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK) or Pulumi. Who You Are: 8+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or CloudOps, with a proven history of technical leadership and project ownership. Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK, Pulumi, TF CDK) and designing complex CI/CD pipelines (AWS CodePipeline, GitLab CI, Jenkins). Expert-level Python scripting skills and deep knowledge of managing large-scale AWS Organizations using services like Control Tower, IAM Identity Center, VPC, and EC2. Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks, particularly in healthcare (HIPAA, CLIA, FDA).
