Senior Automation Test Engineer

ELEKS

• Design, develop, and maintain automated UI test solutions using modern test automation frameworks and tools • Designing, scripting, and executing API/Web Service test scripts • Collaborating actively with the manual team to detect good candidate test cases for automation • Assisting the team in reviewing candidate test cases for automation in the optimal testability of the desired scenario • Assisting the team in creating and maintaining a structured and reusable test approach, which can easily show scope and coverage to Product Managers and other stakeholders • Exercising a Risk-Based Business Driven test approach • Generate clear and understandable test reports and/or dashboards integrated into the Automation CI/CD pipeline • Analyzing and investigating execution failures leading to test case or test script updates or bug reports • Share your ideas about an automation approach and come to a common understanding and way of working • Give realistic estimates for analysis, scripting & execution time, and follow-up so that it becomes possible to generate a tight but executable test automation schedule • Setting up your test environment, being able to deploy a new release on this environment so that you always have an operational environment

Job Requirements

  • 4 years of software quality assurance experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in UI test automation of a web-based application. Hands-on knowledge of API/WebService testing in different integration test levels
  • Strong programming experience in Python or other language
  • Good knowledge of test design techniques and test methodologies, such as ISTQB® or TMap Next®
  • Good knowledge and clear experience in setting up (and maintaining) a modular, highly reusable, and data-driven test automation framework that delivers a robust execution with the least possible maintenance
  • Experience with Jenkins and Kubernetes as well as CI/CD
  • Fast learner, proactive, and initiative with minimal supervision while hitting deadlines
  • Willingness for continuous learning and improvement
  • Ownership and personal organizational skills
  • Good team player, able to work independently where and when required
  • Upper-Intermediate level of English (written & verbal)

Role Description Symetra’s Operational Effectiveness team is seeking a full-time Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET). This role operates within a Scrum team using a two-week sprint cycle and is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining automated and manual tests for applications and services used by Symetra’s internal employees and engineering teams. As an individual contributor, you will collaborate with other engineers, product owners, QAs, and stakeholders to estimate work based on high-level requirements and ensure high-quality, secure software delivery throughout the development lifecycle. We are looking for someone with a strong DevOps mindset, a passion for quality engineering, and excellent collaboration skills. What you will do - Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-quality test automation frameworks and scripts. - Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and estimation activities. - Conduct code reviews and collaborate with engineers to meet sprint commitments. - Apply quality engineering best practices (TDD, shift-left testing, code reviews, monitoring, and design reviews). - Develop and maintain comprehensive feature-level and end-to-end automated tests. - Troubleshoot issues across a full-stack AWS cloud architecture. - Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines as code (YAML) using Azure DevOps. - Mentor junior Software Test Engineers (STEs) and SDETs. - Contribute to continuous improvement of testing strategies, frameworks, and tools. - Present and share cloud-based solutions with internal engineering communities for feedback and review. - Collaborate effectively in a remote team environment using tools such as Microsoft Teams. Qualifications - 3+ years of experience building test automation using Playwright. - 3+ years of experience testing APIs and web services using tools and formats such as REST, JSON, XML, and Postman. - 5+ years of experience creating and maintaining test artifacts (test plans, test cases, test strategies). - Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies. - Experience with CI/CD pipeline development using Azure DevOps (YAML pipelines). - Experience working with AWS-based cloud applications. - Strong understanding of QA best practices, including shift-left testing, defect triage, and quality metrics. - Ability to write clean, modular, maintainable code. - Experience with mainframe testing and Selenium is a plus. - Strong verbal and written communication skills. - Collaborative team player with a proactive mindset. - Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic environment. - Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. - Continuous learner with a growth mindset. - High school diploma required.
