Senior General Ledger Accountant

Role Description The Senior GL Accountant is responsible for overseeing general ledger activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards. This role plays a critical part in supporting plant operations, inventory accounting, and cost structures unique to the industry. General Ledger & Close Process - Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes - Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations - Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial statements in accordance with GAAP - Maintain and improve close timelines and processes - Support inventory accounting including raw materials, COGS, and finished goods - Analyze standard vs. actual costs Financial Reporting & Analysis - Prepare internal and external financial reports - Perform variance analysis (budget vs. actual, prior period comparisons) - Ensure compliance with internal control requirements - Maintain documentation for audits and coordinate with internal/external auditors - Support regulatory cost tracking where applicable - Identify and implement process improvements in accounting workflows - Prepare and review account reconciliations maintained monthly - Prepare and review monthly journal entries for reporting Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field - CPA preferred - 5+ years of accounting experience - Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles - Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) - Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis) - Understanding of process manufacturing and chemical production environments - Familiarity with standard costing, inventory valuation, and production variance analysis - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - High attention to detail and accuracy - Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment - Effective communication and collaboration skills - Continuous improvement mindset Company Description Solugen's mission is to decarbonize chemical manufacturing. Role Description The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing the financial health of a government contracting (GovCon) organization. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting strategic financial planning and analysis. This role also includes direct supervision and development of a small accounting team (2–3 staff members) and partners closely with executive leadership, including the President and CEO.
