Revenue Examiner I Location: Des Moines, USA Job Number 26-02892 Hybrid Job Description: Salary $42,889.60 - $63,044.80 Annually The Iowa Department of Revenue's Compliance Division is seeking a Revenue Examiner 1 to join our Individual Tax team. The Compliance Division oversees all facets of tax processing, issuances of business permits, and alcohol regulation throughout the state. From the receipt of individual and business tax returns and payments, audits and collections, to routine compliance inspections and regulatory verification of alcohol-licensed establishments, this division is tasked with upholding, enforcing and educating taxpayers and licensees on Iowa's laws and regulations. In this position you will: - Assist customers with account-level information inquiries over the telephone, in-person and via email regarding tax credits - Utilize strong judgment skills to resolve sensitive and difficult situations while using effective communication with both internal and external customers - Conduct complex tax audits by independently performing an office investigation to ensure that individuals or businesses are correctly and accurately claiming tax credits - Review and examine tax returns, make necessary adjustments through gathering all returns filed by the taxpayer, and determine either the correct amount of refund due or additional amount of taxes, penalty, and interest owed by the taxpayer Preference will be given to candidates with the following: - Experience providing customer service to the public - Basic knowledge of preparing, reviewing, or examining tax returns - Ability to gather data and create simple spreadsheets Job Specific Competencies: - Customer and Personal Service - Principles and processes for providing customer and personal service.
