Business Development Manager – Wastewater
IDEX
• Drive top-of-funnel business development activities in the Western United States for Subterra screening services (priority states: CA, NV, AZ, UT, CO). • Generate and nurture leads through networking, cold calling, referrals, conferences, industry events, and proactive outreach to generate demand for Subterra screening services • Deliver compelling presentations at conferences and client meetings (in-person and virtual) • Collaborate with clients to define project and service contract opportunities, and win specifications on large infrastructure projects • Educate customers and prospective clients from operator to executive level on the philosophy and practical benefits of screening technology for large diameter sewer assets • Partner with Key Account and Project Management teams to secure and close Subterra service opportunities • Introduce and sell new concepts to municipal wastewater and consulting engineering customers. • Join and actively participate in statewide and local wastewater industry associations. • Present technical content at conferences and seminars to promote Subterra. • Grow, maintain, and forecast opportunities in CRM (Manage pipeline).
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, construction management, or a related field or 3–5+ years of relevant hands-on experience deploying sewer inspection technologies within wastewater collection systems
- Demonstrated experience with sewer inspection technologies, methodologies, software platforms, and industry standards, including CCTV, multi-sensor inspection (MSI), and NASSCO standards (PACP, MACP, LACP)
- 3–5+ years of experience in the water, wastewater, or municipal infrastructure professional services industry, with a strong preference for wastewater collection system expertise
- Ability to translate technical capabilities into practical, customer-facing solutions that address collection system challenges
- Proven ability to champion innovative technologies, articulate value propositions, and drive customer interest and adoption
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and public-speaking skills, with experience presenting to municipal stakeholders, engineering consultants, and internal teams
- Highly effective relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with sales, product, engineering, and operations teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to create clear, professional customer and internal-facing materials
- Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail
- Experience using CRM platforms or sales tracking systems preferred (e.g., Salesforce) is a plus
- Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time within territory; national travel up to 2x per year

• Increase SQL volume, improve lead quality, and accelerate pipeline by engaging, qualifying, and nurturing inbound and marketing‑generated leads. • Respond to inbound leads within defined SLAs (hot leads <5 minutes). • Execute multi‑channel outreach (call, SMS, email, voicemail, LinkedIn). • Personalize outreach based on lead source, behavior, and ICP fit. • Follow structured cadences for each lead type (FB lead form, webinar, download, referral, etc.). • Conduct discovery to determine fit based on: Practice size, Revenue, Decision‑maker status, Current marketing challenges, Timeline, Budget alignment, Tech stack. • Document qualification notes clearly in HubSpot. • Share relevant case studies, videos, and resources. • Explain the value proposition clearly and confidently. • Warm leads before handoff to Sales. • Re‑engage cold leads. Follow up on no‑shows. Push stalled deals forward with helpful content. Identify buying signals early. • Report weekly on: Lead quality by source, Objection trends, Messaging resonance, Content gaps, Opportunities for workflow optimization
