Role Description As a Virtual Auto Estimator on our NEST team, you will be responsible for writing initial vehicle damage estimates. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with body shops and customers by reviewing vehicle damage photos and producing high‑quality initial estimates in a fast‑paced, high‑production environment. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in technical estimating skills, a solid understanding of repair procedures, and the confidence to negotiate effectively with repair facilities. Experience in CCC and Microsoft applications is essential. Candidates located in NC or FL are highly desirable, and prior experience in the auto insurance industry is strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities - Applies thorough understanding of regulatory compliance and fair claims practices - Builds established relationships with both internal and external customers - Exhibits proficient estimating fundamentals in order to create estimates of damages on 1st and 3rd party material damage losses - Processes a deep understanding of the content of all policy types written by the company - Negotiates settlements, makes settlement payments and documents all activities in the file within escalated authority limits Supervisory Responsibilities - This job does not have supervisory duties. Total compensation for this role is comprised of several factors, including the base compensation outlined above, plus incentive pay (i.e. commission, bonus, etc.) as applicable for the role. Licensing Requirements As a requirement of employment, individuals who currently hold an active insurance license must terminate all existing appointments prior to onboarding and must not hold any outside appointments at any point during employment. The Office of Pre-Professional Programs and Advising serves Johns Hopkins University undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering pursuing graduate education in medicine, dentistry, other health professions, and law. A central component of service is to write Health Professions Committee Letters, which present a holistic overview of each candidate’s application to medical or dental schools. Each summer, the Office of Pre-Professional Programs & Advising composes approximately 450 Committee Letters that support applicants to medical or dental school. Writers play a central role in the writing of those Committee Letters. Content Writers convert applicant information into text suitable for use in the Health Professions Committee Letters. Content Writers work remotely and independently; they are responsible for editing their work as they write. Review of applicants will begin immediately with a proposed start date April 27, 2026. Applicants being considered as finalists will be contacted via email and be asked to submit a draft committee letter as a writing sample. Compensation: Writers will be compensated $30.00/hr. with the expectation that one letter will take no more than 2.5 hours to complete. Content writers will be compensated for all mandatory training.
