Associate Director, Business Development, Licensing
Lonza
Role Description This is a remote role ideally located in Beijing, China with consideration in Shanghai, China. The purpose of this role is to commercialize Lonza’s technologies by seeding the innovator market in the given territory: China and Asia Pacific. What you will do: - Drive adoption of proprietary Lonza technologies by pharma/biotech innovators through actively prospecting and securing customers via out-licensing agreements (research evaluation agreements). - Achieve China / APAC Business Development goals which contribute to an overall team goal and is typically expressed as numbers of specific deal types. - Collaborate with Marketing, Business Development, and Account Managers across Lonza Platforms and other functions within the Licensing Business team to design, implement, and deliver marketing, business development, and communication strategies. - Drive achievements through China-/APAC-focused marketing campaigns including attending relevant conferences and roadshows. - Provide feedback from customers to internal stakeholders, including relevant Licensing team members to ensure we evaluate ways to continuously improve our licensing product offerings. - Establish a thorough understanding of the innovator ecosystem in China / APAC in order to define the Licensing market opportunity, customer perspectives, and competitor analysis. - Collaborate internally to assess in-licensing opportunities to expand the Licensing offering with additional/expanded value propositions relevant to China / APAC customer needs. - Ensure protection of Lonza IP through ensuring compliance with policies for what and how IP is shared with customers. Raise internal awareness of the value of IP. Qualifications - Strong hunting and prospecting skills with proven Pharma business development / direct sales experience. - Significant contact network within innovative Pharma/Biotech industry in China or APAC region. - Demonstrated negotiation and presentation skills, strong business awareness and commercial acumen. - Bachelor, Master’s, or Doctorate Degree in Science (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, etc.) is required. - Fundamental understanding/experience with biologics manufacturing along with basic scientific background to understand the principles of bioprocess technology and biotherapeutics (i.e. antibodies, proteins, DNA, gene therapies, cell therapies). - Experience in use of Salesforce or similar CRM in managing opportunity and lead pipeline. - Strategic and critical thinker, able to process market information, identify opportunities and develop appropriate strategies to fulfill them. - Highly collaborative: Able to work effectively in a matrix organization and inspire and motivate colleagues in distant locations to collaborate on common goals. - Fundamental understanding of Intellectual Property and awareness of pharma/biotech regulation in China and the APAC. - Fluent in written and spoken English and Mandarin Chinese. - Ability to travel as required (50%).
