Role Description The Index Business Intelligence group delivers research, reporting and insights that drive strategic and commercial decisions. We track industry trends, competitor activity, and client needs to inform market positioning and drive business growth. We’re seeking a Data Engineer to join the Business Intelligence group with a strong emphasis on data programming, analytics, automation, and repeatable reporting. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working deeply in data—building scalable reporting pipelines, performing market and commercial analysis, and translating stakeholder questions into structured datasets and insights. You will partner cross-functionally with BI, Sales, Product, Research, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders—serving as a key connector who can turn ambiguous questions into well-defined metrics, robust data logic, and clear outputs. Key Responsibilities - Own the end-to-end development and delivery of recurring reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness. - Build and maintain automated, code-driven workflows to replace manual reporting processes using Python, R, and SQL. - Develop and maintain scalable analytical products, including compliance summaries, client profiling, KPI scorecards, leadership dashboards, and strategic performance updates. - Create reusable datasets (cleaned, labeled, documented) that enable self-service analytics and consistent definitions across teams. - Implement robust data validation and quality checks (completeness, reconciliations, anomaly detection, and trend monitoring). - Maintain clear documentation for reporting logic, metric definitions, transformations, and assumptions, so analyses are reproducible and scalable. - Communicate technical constraints, tradeoffs, and findings to non-technical stakeholders in clear, practical language. Qualifications - 5+ years of experience in a role centered on data programming, analytics engineering, BI analytics, or advanced data analysis. - Must have advanced proficiency in Python (especially pandas) or R and SQL. - Proven ability to manage large datasets, transform data at scale, and build repeatable data pipelines. - Experience designing automated reporting solutions. - Strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to independently investigate and resolve data discrepancies. - Proven ability to work cross-functionally and translate stakeholder needs into clear metrics, definitions, and technical implementations. Preferred Qualifications - Experience designing data tagging and labeling frameworks for regulatory or audit use, especially using LLMs. - Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements specifically within financial services or asset management. - Exposure to international financial regulatory frameworks. Benefits - Health & Wellness: Health care coverage designed for the mind and body. - Flexible Downtime: Generous time off helps keep you energized for your time on. - Continuous Learning: Access a wealth of resources to grow your career and learn valuable new skills. - Invest in Your Future: Secure your financial future through competitive pay, retirement planning, a continuing education program with a company-matched student loan contribution, and financial wellness programs. - Family Friendly Perks: It’s not just about you. S&P Global has perks for your partners and little ones, too, with some best-in-class benefits for families. - Beyond the Basics: From retail discounts to referral incentive awards—small perks can make a big difference.
