Title: Senior Structural Engineer 1 - Nuclear Location: Charlotte United States Job Description: Area of Interest Structural Engineering Type Full Time - Regular Job ID 2026-23539 Business Group Nuclear Power Group Department Structural and Civil Engineering Description This is a senior engineering position that offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in structural engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity to advance your career. You will collaborate with a team of structural engineers, interface with engineers from other disciplines, and guide the work of less experienced project team members. You will work with a structural engineering team on engineering projects for new nuclear facilities and upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants in the following areas: - This position will offer you the ability to directly apply your knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design - As a member of an engineering and design team, you will work on a wide range of projects for various clients. You will prepare and review design calculations, develop specifications, and support designers with drawing development - Using our state-of-the-art computer tools, you will perform the structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, and foundations - Additionally, you will conduct structural analyses, which include loading conditions such as wind and seismic There is the potential for you to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week. Qualifications We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position. Essential skills and experience: - BS degree Structural/Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program - 5 or more years of experience working as a member of a project team in the design and analysis of structures - Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS - Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI - Proficiency with MS Office applications. - Good written and verbal communication skills Valued, but not required: - MSCE degree - Experience with design and analysis of power plant and/or industrial structures - On site construction support experience - PE or SE license AI & Automation at Sargent & Lundy In this role, we expect people to be willing or able to lead others who use modern tools: - You are expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs. - Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked. - Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required. - We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows. Title: Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer 2 - Nuclear Location: San Juan Puerto Rico Job Description: Nuclear Power is a carbon-free energy source. Our electric power generation clients are digitizing their existing power plants and building new nuclear power plants, small modular reactors (SMR). This is expanding work in the Instrumentation and Controls Engineering group. Due to this influx of work, Sargent & Lundy has a need for I&C Engineers. As a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you will work on major process controls engineering projects in the following areas: - Digital Systems -- PLC, DCS, Touchscreen displays, network switches and control systems. - Functional Requirement and Procurement Specifications for instrumentation and control components and systems. - Process instrumentation replacement evaluation reports and nuclear modification packages. - Prepare documentation for design input for drawing production including cable block diagrams and schematics. - Interface with vendors and prepare equipment purchase specifications. - Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner to meet client requirements. - Development of P&ID's and System Design Descriptions. - Attend client meetings and perform site walkdowns to ensure the client is satisfied with our work product. - Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced nuclear instrumentation and controls design engineers. - Support station outage activities as required. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of spending three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.
