Role Description Leidos Engineering has an opportunity for a Substation Structural Designer to join our fast-paced and dynamic EPC Solutions organization. As a Substation Structural Designer, you will join and guide a diverse team of designers and drafters in creating structural designs, calculations, and technical drawings for substation projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and project requirements. Key responsibilities include: - Resource allocation for direct reports and coordination with engineering manager. - Identify and resolve project issues by keeping an open line of communication between the internal project team and the client. - Interact directly with clients to review and resolve technical project-related issues without supervision. - Collaborate with engineers/designers across disciplines and identify/resolve potential design issues to assure a complete, high-quality product. - Ensure project deliverables for technical quality, accuracy, and compliance with Company and Client standards. - QA/QC site steel plans, sections, details along with corresponding BOMs prepared by direct reports. - QA/QC foundation plans, sections, details along with corresponding BOMs. - Identify and resolve design interferences. - Ensure electrical assets can mount easily, coordinating vendor equipment mounting templates with Leidos’ steel design. - Ensure engineering design details are properly represented for the development of “greenfield” (new) substations. - Perform design due diligence as it relates to site expansion projects or brownfield work within existing substations. - May provide additional support to our site-civil and physical design groups in laying out plans, sections, and details for substation projects. Qualifications - AA/2-year degree in Engineering Technology - CAD or related scientific/technical discipline. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree. - 0 - 4 years of relevant experience in steel design. Additional direct relevant technical experience may be substituted for education. - Demonstrated understanding of design concepts associated with high voltage electrical substations. - Proficient in Substation Power Delivery Software: Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation. Requirements - 3D Modeling Using Autodesk Inventor. - Candidates must be located in the United States in order to be considered, as this role cannot be performed from outside of the US. - Please note that sponsorship and other immigration-related monetary benefits are not available for this position.
