Job Description The Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, security, and reliable operation of the organization’s IT systems, servers, and network infrastructure. This role ensures that all technology systems perform optimally and align with business needs while maintaining high standards of security, availability, and performance. Essential Job Functions - Server & Infrastructure Managemeny - Install, configure, and maintain on‑premises server environment (Windows/Linux) - Assist in managing network balancing via an F5 BigIP Load Balancer - Manage Active Directory, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, and related services. - Monitor system performance and proactively resolve issues to ensure uptime and reliability. - Maintain virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper‑V) and storage systems. - Security & Compliance - Apply security patches, updates, and configuration hardening. - Manage endpoint protection, MFA, identity management, and access controls. - Conduct regular security audits and participate in risk assessments. - Support compliance efforts applicable to the organization. - Backup & Disaster Recovery - Assist in maintaining and testing backup solutions and disaster recovery plans. - Ensure data integrity, availability, and resilient failover processes. - User & Technical Support - Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for server, network, and system issues - Assist with onboarding/offboarding processes and account management. - Document procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guides. - Project Work - Lead or support IT infrastructure projects such as deployments or systems integrations. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement technology solutions. Qualifications Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience. - 3–5+ years of experience in system administration or similar technical role. - Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and networking fundamentals. - Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, and Failover Cluster Manager. - Experience with SAN / Unified storage devices - Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Entra AD environments. - Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills. - Experience with scripting or automation in PowerShell Preferred Qualifications - Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, Server+, Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, Cisco CCNA, VMware VCP. - Experience with backup platforms, monitoring tools, identity management, or cybersecurity tools. - Experience with network performance monitoring and troubleshooting is a plus. - Familiarity with network security best practices. - Exposure to Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Intune, or similar cloud platforms. - Experience supporting SaaS applications or integrations is helpful. Additional Information Work Location BCC Software is a remote organization headquartered in Rochester, NY. This role may be performed remotely; however, Rochester-area candidates are preferred due to occasional in-person collaboration. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This is primarily an office-based role. It requires extended periods of sitting, hand use for typing and writing, and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written. Occasional standing, walking, or bending may be required. The employee must be able to lift up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally, which may include office supplies or small office equipment. Visual acuity is necessary for reading, writing, and computer work. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time exempt position. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
