Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of? At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system. To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems. Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be. While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported. Coinbase’s Physical Security (PhySec) team protects Coinbase’s people and places through proactive threat detection and mitigation, employee training and empowerment, and rapid, employee‑centric incident response. The team spans: - Executive Protection (at‑risk individuals, travel, residential and event security) - Intelligence (threat management, strategic intelligence, backgrounds & talent diligence) - Physical Security Operations / GSOC (global incident response, guard force management, cold storage and COE support) - Security Systems & Technology (access control, CCTV, alarms, radios, physical security design) - Strategic Operations (L&D, metrics & reporting, special projects, procurement) PhySec sits inside the broader Security & Privacy (S&P) organization and is tightly integrated with: - Security Programs (TPM), who provide structure for large, cross‑org programs - Security Strategy / BISOs and Technology Risk, who own the integrated security and technology risk posture - Security Operations, Engineering, and Compliance teams across S&P and the company The Senior Strategic Operations Manager, Physical Security is the DRI who connects PhySec’s work to the rest of S&P — ensuring our strategy, OKRs, metrics, QBR content, and ERM view show up consistently in S&P‑wide planning, reporting, and decision‑making systems. What we look for in you (ie. job requirements): - Demonstrates the ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots (e.g., LibreChat, Gemini, Glean) in daily workflows, continuously learn as tools evolve, and apply human-in-the-loop practices to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and quality. - Experience: 8+ years in strategy/ops/COS/risk/security; 5+ years at senior manager+ in tech, security, or financial services. - Security domain fluency: Physical security ops and risk (GSOC, EP, threat intel, EHS, systems); effective with technical and non‑technical stakeholders. - Business‑level risk management: Quantify risk/return, tie investments to enterprise risk appetite, and communicate tradeoffs to L7+/ET with imperfect data. - Operational excellence: Design/scale OKRs, QBRs, KRIs, dashboards, and governance (P/PS, RAPIDs) in high‑stakes environments. - Executive communication: Crisp written/verbal narratives that convey risk, impact, and required decisions. - Program/portfolio leadership: Drive multi‑quarter, cross‑functional delivery; manage multiple programs and stakeholders to completion. - Influence without authority: Align, enforce standards, and drive behavior change across teams you don’t manage (senior ICs, managers, XFN). Nice to haves: - Crypto/fintech or other highly regulated industry experience. - Consulting, corporate strategy, or security program management background. - Executive leadership support (chief of staff, strategy lead, or equivalent). - ERM frameworks applied to security and technology risk.
