Title: Director, Development Location: Houston, TX, US, 77010 Department: Plant Operations Job Description: Job Summary: Direct and manage multiple new utility-scale gas fired power generation development projects from inception through commercial operation. The ideal candidate will manage all aspects of project development including land acquisition, concept design, fuel supply, electrical interconnection, environmental permitting, financing and community engagement. This role requires a strong understanding of energy infrastructure, competitive power markets and regulatory requirements. Excellent negotiation, communication, and project management skills are essential for success in this position. In addition to competitive base pay, this position is eligible for project completion bonuses, as well as annual and long-term incentive plans Essential Duties/Responsibilities: - Conceive and originate independent power plant development opportunities in response to unprecedented load growth primarily due to large new data centers. Specifically, NRG is looking to deploy capital through grid-scale gas fired generation, energy storage and other power supply technology projects in support of our industry-leading wholesale supply portfolio. - Serve as the team leader and manage all aspects of the day-to-day development process to ensure timely completion, as well as cost effective and competitive results - Coordinate key functions such as internal investment analyses, engineering/design, capital and operating cost estimates, project contract structuring, permitting activities and financial negotiations to create compelling supply proposals for new retail customers. - Proactively identify and manage project risks as they arise before they evolve into material threats to project integrity or commercial viability. - Monitor and report regularly on project progress to VP Business Development and NRG senior/executive management. Minimum Requirements: - B.S. in Business or Engineering - 8 years minimum relevant experience required in engineering, construction, financing and operations of electric generation facilities with at least 3 years in a project development role. - Knowledge of energy markets (ERCOT and PJM preferred) and energy-intensive C&I verticals - Fundamental technical understanding of current-day gas turbine combined cycle technologies, electrical interconnections, fuel supply arrangements, regulatory requirements and environmental, land use, tax and other factors influencing project feasibility Preferred Qualifications: - Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Finance degree preferred. - Proforma financial modeling and analysis experience preferred. - Masters of Business Administration and/or Professional Engineer’s license is a plus Working Conditions: - Open office environment; ability to work remotely, in the field or at existing generating plants. - Time worked outside of normal hours may be required as business needs dictate. - Travel time up to 25% may be required.
