Job DetailsLevel: ExperiencedPosition Type: Always Accepting ApplicationsEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeTravel Percentage: NegligibleJob Shift: AnyJob Category: EducationPart-Time Classical History Instruction Positions Open These positions are paid on a per course basis, and are contracted for 10 months. Position 1: Greek & Roman History Instructor (2-3 courses) World History 1 (Ancient Greece): This course examines the great civilization of ancient Greece, beginning around 600 B.C. with the rise of the Lydian state, and concentrating on the rise and fall of Athens. The course reads the great ancient histories of the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars. It then examines Plato's view of the ideal state. Plato's state can be compared to the actual Greek states and to modern day Republics. World History 2 (Ancient Rome): This course examines the pre-Christian and early Christian world as seen through the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. It covers highlights of Roman history from the mythical founding of the city in 753 BC, the fall of the Republic in the first century BC, to the fall of the Empire in 476 AD. St. Augustine provides background on the conflict of Catholicism with paganism in Roman society. Position 2: Medieval History Instructor (1-2 courses): World History 3 (Era of Christendom): This course is an introduction to the post-Pagan Roman world (which encompassed the province of Britannia, in the west, to the Kingdoms of Armenia and Georgia in the east), and to the expansion and transformation of that world, i.e. the new lands won for Christ by missionaries and the renewal or abolition of many western and central European institutions and traditions. More than this, the Kolbe 11th grade History Course is an attempt to present as an elaborate thriving organism, an often slandered or overlooked period in which the Christian ideal shaped and inspired the social and political order. Course Format In our live online courses, students learn in a virtual classroom among peers with a live instructor who facilitates discussion, lectures, grades the coursework, and issues final grades. This course meets live once/week for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Students taking this course will have 2 major assignments per semester, which may include essays, oral presentations, or other appropriate assignments pertinent to the course. The course will also include semester exams, periodic tests, quizzes, reading, and minor weekly assignments. Reading assignments will be less extensive than the corresponding honors level course. Online instructors for grades 6-12 teach live online courses using Kolbe Academy's curriculum. Responsibilities include conducting live classes, developing lessons and other materials, grading student work, and regularly communicating with students and parents. Kolbe will provide course plans, books, software, and other resources, as well as ongoing support and training, to help instructors to succeed in their roles. Instructors generally work in one department (e.g., math, history) and may teach one or more courses.
