How You Will Make a Difference: - Lead the mechanical design of systems, mechanisms, and components for custom automated machinery and tools - Develop and enforce best practices, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives in mechanical design - Integrate off-the-shelf and custom automation components, including robotics, actuators, sensors, and vision systems - Deliver projects on time and within budget; coordinate project status with Project Managers and cross-functional stakeholders - Generate accurate 3D CAD models and fully detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing and assembly - Mentor and train junior engineers, including reviewing and approving their work for accuracy and quality - Support the build and commissioning of equipment, providing hands-on assistance and guidance to the production team - Build and test mechanical prototypes when necessary to validate concepts before full-scale deployment - Collaborate with controls and software teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electronic subsystems - Manage and communicate with external suppliers to ensure component quality, lead time, and compatibility - Work closely with customers to refine requirements, align design intent, and ensure functional success - Support onsite equipment deployment, installation, and troubleshooting as required Job Requirements: - Demonstrated track record of success in custom automation and machine design - Strong ability to size and specify automation peripherals, including actuators, sensors, and vision systems - Expert-level proficiency with SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD software) - Mastery of engineering drawings, tolerancing, and GD&T (Y14.5M-2009) - Deep knowledge of mechanical components, materials, and fabrication processes (e.g., machining, welding, sheet metal) - Proficiency in basic controls and automation system concepts - Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills - Strong written and verbal communication skills - 6+ years of hands-on experience designing custom automated equipment - Proven ability to specify and troubleshoot pneumatic systems and components - Expertise in designing fixtures, jigs, and custom tooling for precision assembly or automation applications Preferred Experience: - BS or higher degree in mechanical engineering or a related field - 10+ years of experience in a mechanical design role within custom automation, machine building, or related industries - Familiarity with compliance standards such as CE, NFPA 79, and SEMI S8 - Hands-on experience troubleshooting and improving performance of automated machinery - Ability to specify and integrate vision equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting, filters, and mounting systems Physical Requirements: - Work in standing/sitting position continuously. - Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor. - Physically be underneath machines working overhead. - Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally. - Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently. - Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects - VISUAL ACUITY: Near acuity with or withoutaccommodation - HEARING Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds toidentify and diagnose, with or without accommodation Disclaimer: This job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
