Engineering Manager – Hands-On, Payments

Mighty Networks

• Manage a small, high-performing squad of engineers focused on payments and monetization • Spend roughly 60% percent of your time writing production code • Own the technical execution behind checkout, subscriptions, billing, and plan management • Unblock engineers and help them make practical, high-quality technical decisions • Drive execution across payments-related work such as checkout improvements, subscription logic, pricing systems, and third-party integrations • Work closely with product and design to ship improvements that increase conversion and revenue • Integrate and improve third-party payment platforms so they feel seamless and reliable • Maintain a high bar for quality, performance, and system reliability • Coach and develop engineers through direct feedback and ongoing support • Hire and onboard new engineers as needed • Push for fast feedback loops and frequent releases • Act as the escalation point for payment-related systems

Job Requirements

  • Six or more years of experience as an engineer and at least one year leading/managing other engineers
  • Strong full-stack experience, ideally with Ruby on Rails and modern frontend frameworks
  • Experience working on payments, subscriptions, or billing systems in a real product
  • Comfortable integrating third-party payment providers such as Stripe or similar platforms
  • Actively technical and currently coding
  • Solid understanding of how payments work in practice, including checkout, subscriptions, retries, failures, and edge cases
  • Bias toward action and forward progress
  • Clear communicator who works well across engineering, product, and business teams
  • Comfortable making decisions in situations that are not fully defined
  • Interested in using AI tools to improve speed and output
