Position Overview: The Field Construction Inspector is responsible for performing onsite visual inspections of solar photovoltaic (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) installations throughout the North East and the Midwest for Trio’s projects. Trio is rapidly expanding its clean energy project inspection services throughout the country. This role requires approximately 50% travel to client sites each workweek, covering onsite inspections in addition to performing administrative and reporting duties necessary for the inspection process. Additionally, inspections may require working outside of normal business hours such as weekends/holidays and/or after 5:00pm (to witness shutdowns). The Field Construction Inspector provides advice and quality assurance for Trio clients by validating that onsite PV and EV system components and design parameters align with design documents and criteria. This role requires a self-motivated and highly organized individual who can adapt to various situations ranging from customer engagement, visual quality control of installations, timely preparation of accurate and efficient follow-up reports, and project tracking. This role also entails managing multiple Field Construction projects ongoing concurrently. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:• Observe on-going activities to assure client and/or contractor staff are working safely and following safety regulations. • Perform onsite inspections of commercial, utility scale, and community installations of rooftop, ground-mount and carport solar PV systems and EV project systems across the Midwest. • Use visual examination procedures to inspect and assess (and photograph) compliance with plans and specifications required by the program, including installation verification of system components and design parameters. • Create and deliver written reports. • Communicate professionally and accurately with program participants, with timely response times. • Review design compliance of PV system Electrical design with the assistance of electrical reviewer • Maintain inspection files and logs including inspection reports, photos and correspondence in approved Project management software such as One-Drive, Smartsheet, etc. • Ensure project quality and effective implementation of safety programs. • Employ efficient time management skills to accommodate weekly scheduling responsibilities, travel time, inspection variables and reporting deliverable due dates. • Interact with Contractors, Engineers, Property Owners and others engaged in projects regarding progress, scheduling, project problems, plan interpretation, specification and code interpretation, and field assessments. • Review Contractor’s monthly AIA invoices to Owner. • Liaise with multiple EPC’s and other industrial partners • Respond to questions and requests for information regarding inspection results. • Keep interested parties informed of changes or new developments and ensure that they receive clear communications. • Act as an effective communications link and reliable source of information for others. • Coordinate with Program staff on all inspection related matters. • Chair meetings and prepare meeting agendas and minutes. • Perform price estimates for aspects of the project and associated change orders • Proficient using Microsoft Office. • Conduct invoicing for their projects, maintain accurate project accounting records, and regularly and accurately update the project budget and forecasting files. • Provide similar support services for other Trio programs, as needed. • Perform other related duties, as assigned. Required Job Qualifications:• Familiarity with the National Electric Code and electrical wiring in commercial applications • Understanding of photovoltaic technologies, equipment, design approaches, installation methods, shade analysis techniques and other factors affecting system performance • Experience in mechanical installations, electrical installations, general construction and ladder work as well as knowledge of all applicable construction site safety requirements • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service experience with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions • A disciplined, self-motivated, and proactive work style, and ability to work with minimal supervision. • Extremely detail oriented and meticulous with paperwork • Ability to write timely and professional reports explaining field conditions • Ability to solve problems and make decisions effectively, both independently and collaboratively • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers, vendors and clients and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority • Demonstrates ability to use current technology effectively and acquire new technology skills • Demonstrates project management skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, and to work efficiently amidst distractions with shifting priorities and schedules • Effective organizational and time-management skills; assess needs, identify objectives and collect and record relevant information; prioritize actions that must occur and establish communication with affected parties • Demonstrates high-level of abilities of various computer software programs and fluency in using standard office software packages such as MS Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook Preferred Job Qualifications:• Knowledge of the Renewable Energy marketplace and industry • OSHA 30-hour Safety Training. Role Description The Field Service Technician will provide responsive electrical, mechanical and automation support for chilled water systems and ancillary components through analysis, troubleshooting, remediation, implementation, commissioning and testing. As a direct point of contact for our customers, this role will drive customer satisfaction, maximize customer retention and increase profitability in a field environment without direct supervision. Essential Functions - Read and interpret engineered drawings (P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring schematics, electrical one-lines, PLC ladder logic, etc.) - Operate all standard service tools and electrical testing equipment (multimeters, voltmeters, megohmmeters, etc.) - Perform PLC I/O checkout procedures and troubleshoot any issues as a result - Calibrate, troubleshoot and monitor variable frequency drives and 0-10V/4-20mA instrumentation - Perform moderately complex chilled water system start-ups - Perform preventative maintenance activities as per documented schedules and standards on chilled water system components (pumps, motors, cooling towers, instrumentation, electrical equipment, PLCs, etc.) - Set up and program VFD parameters for proper interface and operation - Provide customer training at the completion of commissioning - Complete daily Field Service Reports and submit to Project Manager and/or VP Global Services - Prepares for ISO 9001 and other audits. The technician must comply with safety policies, practices and procedures at all times. Work is primarily done in the field which could be in a construction area requiring use of earplugs, hardhat, steel-toe boots and safety glasses. The work environment could be outdoors, hot or cold, noisy and/or dirty. Physical Demands The technician must be able to work effectively in a construction environment for system testing including climbing ladders and moving around on platforms to maneuver in and around equipment. The technician must also occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The technician must be able to see and read printed materials, speak and comprehend verbal communication, operate a computer, travel including flying as well as driving long distances, work in confined spaces, stand for long periods of time and walk on uneven surfaces. Travel time is approximately 75-90%. Qualifications - Associate degree in technical field or equivalent - 5 years of experience in mechanical, control or electrical field services - Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Understanding of programming languages including Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Statement Lists, Function Block - OSHA-30 certification - Experience with Rockwell Automation ABB, VFD Drive, Rockwell Automation PLC and HMI - Prior experience with motors, controls systems and motor control centers (up to 4160V, 3 phase) - Prior experience calibrating and troubleshooting industrial instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow) Preferred Education and Experience - Formal vocational training with emphasis on industrial instrumentation - Rockwell Automation Certification - ISA Certification - Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) registration or completion of relevant training courses - Experience with PLC Programming Logic (Allen Bradley and Siemens) - Previous equipment startup and commissioning experience - Microsoft certifications for Rockwell products and other relevant applications Work Authorization Must be authorized to work in the United States and have current passport. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential.
