Release of Information Specialist
Vital Records Control (VRC)
• The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I is responsible for processing all assigned requests for medical records in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring accuracy and high quality service to healthcare clients. • Safeguard and protect the patient’s right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to medical information. • Maintain quality and productivity level while interacting regularly with the ROI Area Manager and/or ROI Team Leader to address any concerns regarding quality, connectivity, and client issues. • Access Release of Information requests and medical records according to specific procedures and security protocols. • Prioritize and complete daily requests based on turnaround timeframes. • Validate requests and patient authorizations for compliance with regulations such as HIPAA. • Perform quality control checks and ensure accurate invoicing. • Release requests to valid entities, reject invalid requests, and document communications. • Ensure records are stored properly and securely, and maintain adequate office supplies for tasks. • Assist with incoming requests during backlogs while following policies and procedures.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma (GED) required; degree preferred
- Prior experience with ROI fulfillment preferred
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated documentation and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain productivity and quality performance
- Basic knowledge of medical records and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) preferred
- Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms preferred
- Prior experience with Windows environment and Microsoft Office products
- Displays strong interpersonal skills with team members, clients, and requestors
- Must have strong computer skills and Microsoft Office skills
- Prior experience with operations of equipment such as printers, computers, fax machines, scanners, and microfilm reader/printers, etc. preferred
- Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated and can stay focused on tasks for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Bilingual skills are desirable.
