Senior Transformer Technician – Field-Based
Shermco Industries
• Perform inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of power and distribution transformers • Identify and repair oil leaks; replace gaskets, seals, and related components • Repair or replace radiators, bushings, and auxiliary transformer components • Conduct internal transformer inspections and perform maintenance on load tap changers (LTCs) • Operate vacuum dehydration and oil processing systems, including filtration, reclamation, and replacement • Execute transformer vacuum fill and assemblies • Perform electrical testing Neta ATS and MTS standard • Support commissioning, preventive maintenance, and outage response activities • Maintain accurate service documentation and reports using digital tools (e.g., PowerDB) • Follow all company, client, and regulatory safety procedures and standards
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Post-secondary technical training preferred (Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Red Seal Electrician, Industrial Mechanic/Millwright, Motor Winder, or related trade/technical background considered an asset)
- 5+ years of related transformer field service experience
- Strong knowledge of transformer maintenance practices and oil processing
- Proven experience performing internal inspections and repairs of transformers
- Experience with vacuum filling, oil handling, and transformer assembly
- Familiarity with electrical test equipment
- NETA Certification (Level II–IV) or equivalent Canadian experience/ability to obtain certification is preferred
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (MS Excel, email, reporting tools); PowerDB experience an asset
