Role Description The Principal Engineer, Backend will architect, design, and build resilient, large-scale backend systems for Bluebeam’s Subscription Platform. This role sets technical standards, mentors staff, advises on complex technical challenges, and ensures robust, production-grade solutions that meet demanding scalability, reliability, and security expectations in a distributed cloud native environment. This role will also be responsible for collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams (Architecture, Product, Delivery, Quality, DevOps, Security, Executive Leadership) to accomplish important project objectives and key results. - Architect, design, and lead the implementation of cloud-native backend systems that are scalable, secure, and resilient, particularly with Identity, AWS and Go-based microservices. - Proactively identify architectural risks, surface trade-offs, and implement solutions that account for security, compliance, and performance within the customer subscription space. - Guide and mentor other engineers in backend systems to elevate design rigor, technical problem decomposition, and system reliability. - Rapidly ramp up on unfamiliar problem spaces, codebases, and technologies to deliver timely value on complex projects. - Is the go-to expert for complex areas of our systems. - Advises Product and Engineering management on technology direction, trade-offs, and technical investments aligned with business goals. - Collaborate with partner teams (Architecture, Client Applications, SRE, Security, Product, DevOps) for end-to-end solution delivery, platform consistency, and operational excellence. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree or higher - Computer Science or equivalent field. - AWS Certified Solutions Architect. - 10+ years building high performing/data intensive applications running in the Cloud. - Evidence of progressive responsibility and significant architectural & business impact. - Advanced expertise in backend development, including designing, building, and operating production-grade REST and GraphQL APIs using Go (Golang) and/or .Net. - Extensive knowledge and practical experience with cloud infrastructure, architecting and supporting complex, large-scale distributed environments, preferably leveraging AWS. - Strong database fundamentals: SQL/NoSQL, schema design, query optimization, and cloud-native managed data stores. - Experience designing, creating high-quality microservices. - Leading a team to deliver cloud native applications to market using Amazon AWS (like EC2, S3, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, ELB, Lambda). - Comfortable with infrastructure-as-code, containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and automated deployments (Terraform/CircleCI/GitHub Actions or similar). - Solid knowledge of microservice architecture, containerization, and container orchestration. - Profound contributions as technical mentor and leader for backend, SRE, and backend teams. - Willingness to learn and expand skills and repertoire. - A positive mindset, team-oriented, results driven, and organized. - Experience mentoring other team members. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. Requirements - Experience with identity federation and single sign-on (SSO) protocols (e.g., OAuth, SAML, OpenID Connect). - Contributions to Go/Golang or cloud-native open-source projects. • Designing and implementing new features within the Data Product space, such as trust-minimized off-chain computation & the aggregation of external data in various blockchain environments, and many more problems • Design and own the end to end delivery of new and existing data products that power the largest market share of Defi by total value secured (TVS) • Learn more about the underlying technology in the blockchain ecosystem (Solana, Avalanche, Polygon, Ethereum, and more). • Build our core products with Smart Contracts using Solidity, Move, and Rust. • Partner with the research team to build cutting-edge products • Think creatively about attack vectors, possible failures, and disaster scenarios, modeling them in reproducible test environments, and developing fixes • Managing the architectural vision for new subsystems in the core Chainlink node • Implementing resilient distributed systems to achieve extremely high reliability in a variety of blockchain environments
