Senior Development Program Manager, Mechanical Engineering

QTS Data Centers

• Manage the schedule of deliverables and mechanical design workflows across multiple projects • Manage a group of engineers/designers to review drawing packages for adherence to mechanical design standards • Perform technical review of design drawings and calculations (e.g., HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, fire protection, and related systems) • Direct research of technical topics and act as an SME in multiple areas of mechanical design, installation, and/or equipment • Collaborate with internal and external design teams to evaluate designs for compliance with standards, local codes, and requirements of local AHJs • Partner with stakeholders to define scope, document deviations from standards, and communicate requirements to the design team • Work with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to support responses to RFIs and value engineering queries • Collaborate with procurement to review OFCI equipment submittals for compliance with standard mechanical design criteria • Create and communicate monthly program updates and mechanical design milestone status suitable for executive-level reviews • Support project teams in resolving design issues discovered during construction and commissioning phases • Work with consultants to develop and review mechanical calculations for adherence to design standards • Manage the standards process including design drawings, specifications, BODs, SOOs, and BIM models for mechanical scope • Contribute to continuous improvement of project management processes and engineering standards

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering field) or equivalent professional experience
  • 8 – 10+ years of professional experience in engineering design or the construction industry, related to all aspects of project design
  • 4 – 8+ years of experience with management of mission critical design, implementation, and project management
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, specifically PowerPoint for communicating project updates and Excel to summarize design deliverables and calculations
  • Desire to pursue a career in property design / engineering / development / construction
  • Able to travel up to 25% of the time (average travel anticipated monthly for 2-3 days)
  • U.S. Citizenship for this position is required by law due to federal customer contracts
  • 8 – 10+ years experience designing and managing mechanical systems for Data Centers, construction, operations, and/or facility maintenance
  • Project Management or Project Lead experience in large-scale projects
  • Direct experience in the construction of data centers, critical medical, industrial, construction, oil and gas, or large-scale systems
  • Expert-level knowledge of mechanical engineering industry standards, procedures, and methodologies
  • Experience with performance-based alternatives to prescriptive mechanical designs
  • Expert knowledge of mechanical systems and their integration into mission-critical environments
  • Advanced multidisciplinary knowledge of mission critical systems, design process, pre-construction requirements, and the construction process
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers
  • Professional Engineering license preferred, not required.

Role Overview The Mechanical Services Specialist is responsible for delivering high‑quality mechanical field engineering services for rotating machinery including power generators both onshore and offshore. This role exists to ensure the safe, effective, and timely execution of field service activities on customer sites across the UK. Working within defined procedures and step‑by‑step operational instructions, the Mechanical Field Engineer supports the maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of rotating machines, including generators, helping customers maximise equipment reliability and performance. The position is accountable for the quality of its own work, contributing to preventive and remedial maintenance programmes while representing the business professionally in both onshore and offshore environments. Operating from a UK base, the role plays a key part in sustaining customer satisfaction and supporting the lifecycle of installed products. Your Impact - Deliver high‑quality on‑site life‑extension, repair, inspection, and diagnostic services- including machining, NDT, blading, winding, and critical welding- to keep customer rotating machinery performing reliably. - Lead safe and compliant field operations by setting the standard for EHS excellence and working closely with GE EHS and service leadership to drive a zero‑injury culture. - Install, commission, troubleshoot, and service mechanical rotating machine systems, ensuring customers receive dependable support both onshore and offshore. - Provide clear technical direction and supervision to technicians and craft labour when required, ensuring work is completed efficiently and to GE standards. - Build strong customer relationships by acting as a trusted technical interface, exchanging information effectively, and resolving issues using established procedures. - Strengthen operational quality through accurate preparation of safety plans, risk assessments, method statements, inspection reports, and other essential documentation. - Continuously expand technical expertise and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of reporting systems to ensure timely, precise field data and ongoing professional development.
