Founding Engineer – Applied ML

Bravebird

Mission We make machines talk to machines so humans can spend their time with other humans. Today, people spend an enormous amount of time navigating software - portals, voice-bot trees, and systems that were not designed to work together. We are building agents that handle these machine-to-machine conversations and workflows, freeing people to focus on work that requires a human touch. Applied first to healthcare operations where humans are drowning in software. About The Role We’re building the next generation of agentic AI systems that can reason, act, and operate reliably in messy, real-world environments — across chat, voice, and full computer-use interfaces. As a Founding Engineer – Applied ML, you’ll help architect and ship the core intelligence powering our agents: reasoning systems, grounding, planning, memory, evals, and reliability. This is a deeply technical role with massive ownership — ideal for someone who wants to push the frontier of practical AI while shipping real product used by real customers. What You’ll Do - Design and implement agentic reasoning systems for real production workflows - Build robust tool orchestration, planning, and grounding frameworks - Develop context, memory, and state management for long-horizon tasks - Create evaluation and reliability frameworks that measure correctness and performance - Work across chat, voice, and UI computer-use agents to make them coordinated and dependable - Translate research concepts into practical, production-ready systems - Partner closely with founders and customers to iterate quickly and ship - Help shape company culture, technical standards, and early engineering practices What You’ll Bring - 5+ years of software engineering experience - 2+ years building and shipping LLM or agentic systems in production - Experience with eval frameworks, memory, retrieval, and grounding architectures - Comfort working across ambiguous, open-ended technical problems - A bias toward building systems that are reliable, measurable, and testable - Strong product intuition — you care about real users and real outcomes - Excellent communication and collaboration skills Bonus Experience - Model fine-tuning and RL techniques - Multimodal agents (voice, CUA) - Experience building in healthcare or other regulated enterprise domains What We Offer - Founding-level work ownership - Competitive compensation, with meaningful equity - The ability to work directly with founders and customers, move fast, and ship real, production-grade agent systems into high-stakes environments - We’re based in San Francisco and work best together in person. That said, we’re flexible for exceptional remote candidates and provide visa sponsorship.

About us Owkin is an AI company on a mission to solve the complexity of biology. It is building the first Biology Super Intelligence (BASI) by combining powerful biological large language models, multimodal patient data, and agentic software. At the heart of this system is Owkin K, an AI copilot and its new LLM fine-tuned on biology called Owkin Zero, used by researchers, clinicians, and drug developers to better understand biology, validate scientific hypotheses, and deliver better diagnostics and therapies faster. This position is remote and based in the UK , Germany or France. Please submit your CV in English About the role: We are seeking exceptional Junior Forward Deployed Engineers to work at the intersection of AI, software systems, and biology. In this role, you will partner directly with leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to solve high-impact problems by designing, building, and deploying production-grade solutions on top of our agentic AI platform, Owkin K. This is a deeply hands-on engineering role: you will write code, build integrations, design system architectures, and rapidly prototype new capabilities that bring advanced AI into real scientific workflows. A significant portion of this work will be conducted at the customer’s premises. You will collaborate with internal domain experts to design and deliver together on the client expectations. You will also help shape the roadmap of our product by distilling insights from the field back into the platform. This is an opportunity to grow rapidly in a dynamic environment, learning from experienced team members with diverse, interdisciplinary backgrounds, while contributing to turning frontier research work into reliable, deployable solutions. You will operate across three core dimensions: - Build real systems: Design, implement, and deploy production-grade AI systems on top of Owkin K with senior engineers. You will write code, build integrations, design data pipelines and APIs, and turn ambiguous problems into reliable software used in critical scientific and operational workflows. - Solve problems with users: Work directly with engineers, data scientists, biologists and clinicians from our customers: leading pharma and biotech companies, as well as within Owkin. Adapt language and detail to ensure clarity and alignment; - Thrive in fast-evolving environments by staying flexible, embracing ambiguity, and proactively driving progress despite incomplete information. Candidates not meeting all criteria, but who can demonstrate exceptional skill in key areas, are invited to apply.
