Assistant Controller
Strategic Growth Partners
• Oversee and support day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll coordination, and month-end close. • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting across internal entities and client engagements. • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, documentation, and audit readiness. • Support clients operating in government contracting environments, including alignment with DCAA expectations and audit readiness. • Assist in maintaining compliant accounting practices (e.g., timekeeping, labor distribution, cost allowability, indirect rate structures). • Contribute to compliance across applicable frameworks (e.g., FAR, CAS, and other regulatory requirements as applicable). • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to ensure documentation and processes meet audit and review standards. • Serve as a finance lead or key support resource for at least one major client engagement. • Communicate professionally and effectively with client stakeholders, including executives and finance teams. • Support onboarding of new clients and provide ongoing financial insights and operational support. • Manage and mentor accounting staff, including Accountants and AP personnel. • Review work product, provide guidance, and ensure high standards of quality and accountability. • Help develop team capacity, structure, and performance expectations. • Identify opportunities to standardize processes across internal and client environments. • Develop and implement scalable workflows, templates, and reporting structures. • Make recommendations based on industry best practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and visibility. • Support optimization of QuickBooks (QB) environments and related accounting workflows. • Partner with internal teams or external providers on system improvements and integrations.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
- 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
- Experience supporting government contractors and familiarity with DCAA-compliant environments strongly preferred
- Experience working across multiple industries (e.g., Construction, IT, Professional Services, or similar) preferred
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and general accounting systems

The Controller is a key member of Nature United’s Finance & Operations team and will be responsible for the oversight and execution of all accounting activities. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, the role is focused on the management, maintenance and reporting of financial data and monitoring of internal controls and processes to ensure compliance with policies, standard operating procedures, and best practices. The successful candidate will bring not only strong technical and problem-solving abilities but also strong collaboration and communication skills. The Controller will have support from within the department, centralized services from our global affiliate, as well as external collaborators. Responsibilities include: - Manage full‑cycle general ledger activities for both Canadian (ASPNO) and U.S entities (US GAAP), providing strategic oversight while performing key operational tasks such as journal entry preparation, miscoding corrections, and revenue allocations. - Lead monthly and year‑end close processes and ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting to support organizational decision‑making. Development and oversight of year end activities for all Finance team, involving weekly meetings and ongoing follow-up. - Development/maintenance of working papers, ad hoc reporting and review packages for Director of Finance & Operations - Manage end‑to‑end payroll operations for staff, including preparing payroll inputs, coordinating with the external payroll provider, performing payroll accounting, and addressing employee inquiries related to wages and benefits.
