• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. • Conduct variance analysis to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement. • Manage lease accounting, including ROU assets and lease liability calculations (ASC 842). • Maintain and reconcile fixed assets and depreciation schedules. • Ensure proper accounting for new lease agreements and asset acquisitions. • Prepare journal entries and perform balance sheet reconciliations. • Monitor and ensure compliance with multi-state sales tax regulations. • Work with operations to maintain accurate sales tax reporting and filings. • Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulations. • Support external audits and implement internal controls to safeguard assets. • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows. • Assist with ad hoc reporting and special projects to enhance efficiency.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of corporate accounting experience with proven ability to work independently and take ownership of key accounting processes.
  • Experience with lease accounting (ASC 842) and fixed assets strongly preferred.

This is a remote position. We are recruiting on behalf of a client of ours based in Nashville, Tennessee. They are looking for a long term Staff Accountant in their small, collaborative team. You will gain hands-on experience in every facet of the company’s monthly accounting cycle and financial close. This role offers high visibility and the opportunity to work across various financial functions, reporting directly to the CFO. The successful candidate will be offered permanent employment but it will be an independent contract by nature as the client doesn't have an entity operating from South Africa, so you will be liable for your own taxes. Working hours will be confirmed but USA/RSA overlap is needed and can look like e.g. 10:00 - 18:00 or 11:00 - 19:00. Key Responsibilities Financial Statement Preparation - Perform comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations. - Prepare monthly cash flow statements. - Manage sales tax compliance and timely filings. - Oversee accounts payable processing. - Conduct income statement trend analysis and prepare supporting notes for CFO financial report reviews.
