Background: UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women's rights at the centre of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates the United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. Through its programs and projects, UN Women is providing technical assistance to national partners (governmental and non-governmental), including private sector, in the implementation of existing international and national commitments to women’s rights and gender equality, it facilitates networking, exchange of good practices and advocates for women’s rights and gender equality in all areas of life. UN Women and UNFPA are implementing Phase II of the regional programme EU4Gender Equality: Together against gender stereotypes and gender-based violence (EU4GE) funded by European Union. The programme aims to reduce gender-discriminatory attitudes and practices and prevent gender-based violence across the Eastern Partnership countries, including Republic of Moldova.
