About the role As a Writer / Researcher for Mentour BlackBox, you’ll dive deep into complex engineering topics from large-scale systems and infrastructure to cutting-edge technologies and real-world failures. This is not surface-level content. You will be expected to go far beyond basic research analyzing technical documentation, reports, academic sources, and real-world case studies and transforming that information into highly engaging, story-driven scripts. You’ll combine technical depth with narrative clarity, crafting scripts that are as entertaining as they are informative. Key Responsibilities - Research and analyse complex engineering systems, technologies, and real-world case studies - Go beyond standard sources using reports, technical papers, primary data, and expert material - Write clear, structured, voiceover-ready scripts blending technical accuracy with strong storytelling - Build compelling narrative arcs that keep audiences engaged throughout - Break down complex concepts (engineering systems, scientific principles, failure chains, etc.) into accessible explanations without losing depth - Collaborate with producers, editors, and the wider team to refine storytelling, pacing, and clarity - Fact-check all content rigorously, maintaining high editorial standards - Stay up to date with developments in engineering, science, and technology to help pitch new ideas Skills and experience - Exceptional writing ability with a strong sense of storytelling and narrative structure - Proven ability to turn complex information into engaging, watchable content - Outstanding research skills you naturally go beyond the obvious and dig deeper than most - Ability to balance technical depth with clarity and entertainment - Strong interest in engineering, science, or technical fields Background in areas such as: - Engineering (any discipline) - Physics / applied sciences - Biology or other technical domains - Highly detail-oriented and accuracy-driven You should be someone who: - Thinks in stories, not just lists information - Enjoys going down research rabbit holes others wouldn’t - Takes pride in both accuracy and engagement Desirable - Experience writing scripts for YouTube, video, or voiceover formats is highly desirable. - Articles and Blog experience is a valid substitute. - Experience in technical writing, science communication, or investigative storytelling is a strong advantage - Formal qualifications are a plus, but not essential if your work demonstrates strong technical understanding - Comfortable working independently in a remote environment - Collaborative mindset able to work closely with a small, high-performance team Electrify Culture - Dynamic environment - We are dedicated to providing a world-class creative culture where our employees can thrive. Working with Waythrough’s Communications Team and community reporters, the editors will help shape and grow our bi-monthly (every other month) magazine, ensuring it reflects the voices, experiences and achievements of the people we support as well as developments at Waythrough’s family of services. This role involves steering the content, guiding community reporters, and helping to showcase the exciting work and projects happening across Waythrough. Tasks may include: - Collaborate with the Communications Team and community reporters to develop a yearly publishing schedule that aligns each edition with our gold campaigns. - Help plan each edition of the magazine, including themes, stories and key messages. - Review and edit contributions from community reporters and guest writers. - Write short pieces or introductions that set the tone for each issue. - Work with the Communications Team to gather stories, updates and news from across Waythrough services. - Ensure the magazine reflects a diverse range of voices and lived experiences. - Contribute lived-experience insight to wider communications and corporate campaigns. - Support the aim of growing the magazine’s readership and increasing engagement. - Attend meetings with the Communications Team and community reporters to link with campaigns, discuss ideas and future editions. This is a remote position. We are looking for a talented audio editor as our go-to source for audio editing needs on the projects. To guarantee that expectations and timelines are followed, the audio editor must be experienced in the post-production process. The ideal applicant will have prior experience editing audio-books and podcasts. The ideal applicant will have a keen eye for quality and detail and will strive to ensure that every audio production produced meets our exacting standards. They must be able to handle many projects at varying states of completion at the same time. An capacity to prioritize, as well as organizational and collaboration abilities, is required.
