What the Senior Manager, Proposals does at Worldwide Clinical Trials The Senior Manager, Proposals is responsible for all aspects of proposal development for Worldwide Clinical Trials, including the development and revision of proposals and the line management of individual contributors across Pricing and Writing, as assigned. What you will do - Advise on strategic and customized solutions for proposal documents and client budgets - Meet deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, reviews, mapping of client grids, and securing relevant approvals - Ensure departmental processes and timelines are followed and that project close-out activities are completed in a timely manner by the team - Support client presentations as required - Provide final quality control (QC) review, where assigned, to ensure text and budgets align with sponsor needs and the win strategy as defined by Business Development and Operations - Manage and oversee the escalation process on assigned opportunities and support cross-functional development teams through the delivery of high-quality deliverables within prescribed timelines - Serve as manager for the Proposals Team by acting as a point of escalation for questions or issues related to deliverables, responding to team inquiries, and reviewing required deliverables - Represent and/or lead department and company initiatives on behalf of leadership - Collaborate with the Proposal Management Team and Commercial Solutions to ensure continuity in processes and responsibilities - Assist in the development of the Proposals Team through mentoring of more junior team members, as assigned - Develop and maintain interactive training tools to enhance the writing and pricing skills of the Proposals Team - Manage workload distribution and assignment of proposal deliverables across the Proposals Team - Research business writing techniques to improve the proposal development process and establish efficient, aligned processes across functions - Proactively address training needs and gaps and coordinate with subject matter experts to obtain available training materials or schedule one-on-one sessions, as needed - Provide support and act as a resource to team members in identifying short- and long-term career interests, preparing individual development plans, and facilitating discussions regarding career progression opportunities - Serve as a point of escalation and mentor for the Manager, Proposals What you will bring to the role - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Office) applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and concisely - Ability to set and manage opportunity plans, communication plans, schedules, and deadlines, including identifying delays, determining barriers to progress, and implementing effective corrective actions - Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously - Strong interpersonal skills to manage team members, deliverables, responders, and deadlines - Ability to independently train and support junior personnel Your Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Life Science, Business Management, or a related field required - Minimum of seven years of experience in a Contract Research Organization (CRO) or pharmaceutical business development or operational environment, or five years of experience in proposal development - Knowledge of the CRO and pharmaceutical industry and sales support activities, with a strong understanding of study design, project management, and operational requirements for successful study implementation - Strong planning, strategizing, managing, monitoring, scheduling, and critiquing skills - Ability to advise and interact effectively with all levels of staff - Ability to demonstrate excellent analytical skills, exercise sound judgment, and support effective decision-making - Excellent organizational skills - Travel required on rare occasions, potentially with short notice Promotion to the next level is not automatic based on years of experience. The Senior Area Applications Manager is a regional people leader accountable for multisite business outcomes across quality, delivery, customer experience, cost, and talent for the Applications organization.
