Forward Deployed Engineer, AI Internal Tools

• Partner with cross-functional internal teams and DevOps to conceptualize, build, and deploy internal tools and workflows that leverage AI to streamline processes • Develop user-friendly, high-performance internal web applications using Laravel (PHP) and TypeScript for microservices • Deploy, manage, and scale cloud infrastructure using AWS (specifically AWS CDK) • Collaborate with internal teams to maintain, optimize, and take ownership of our CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions • Develop and optimize RESTful API endpoints and effectively manage SQL databases through query optimization and optimal indexing • Implement monitoring and performance tracking (e.g., Datadog) and execute plans to ensure the continued security of our cloud environments • Actively participate in code reviews, champion clean architecture, and provide constructive mentorship to peers
Job Requirements
- Experience in software development and DevOps/Cloud infrastructure
- Solid understanding of JavaScript frameworks (specifically Vue.js, but React/Angular experience translates well)
- Strong experience with Node.js/TypeScript, alongside familiarity with PHP and the Laravel framework
- Proven track record building applications with Docker, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in GitHub
- Strong experience with SQL and relational data modeling
- Experience with TDD/automated testing frameworks (Jest, Playwright, PHPUnit) and building Datadog dashboards
- Familiarity with microservices, event-driven architectures, and SaaS release concepts
- Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to work closely with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions

Building upon our success since we launched WEX VC in 2023, we are entering an exciting new phase where we are investing across B2B payments and commercial mobility. As part of this new chapter, we are growing our team, and seeking a full-time Investor, WEX Venture Capital, either remote out of one of our hub locations (Boston, New York City, Dallas, Chicago, Washington DC, SF Bay Area) or based in our beautiful waterfront office in Portland, Maine. The ideal candidate is highly motivated to explore areas of opportunity, build relationships with key ecosystem players, develop deal flow, and drive due diligence processes, all while being a part of the core team shaping the development of WEX Venture Capital into a best-in-class corporate VC. The role may also offer the opportunity for post-investment monitoring and engagement as observer on the board of directors of WEX Venture Capital portfolio companies. You will contribute significantly to the impact of our fund on WEX, the startup ecosystem, and the evolution of the mobility and fintech industries more broadly. • Develop advanced computer vision algorithms for object recognition, scene understanding, visual SLAM, and 3D perception in real-world robotic environments. • Enhance robotic perception systems supporting navigation, localization, manipulation, and task execution using multimodal sensor data (RGB, depth, LiDAR). • Research and prototype modern AI architectures, including: • State of the Art Visual SLAM and Structure from Motion • Large Language Models (LLMs) for robotics • Generative AI and diffusion models • Neural rendering, radiance fields, and Gaussian splatting • Graph neural networks and self-supervised learning • Deploy and evaluate research at scale, transitioning ideas from prototype to production-ready systems. • Collaborate closely with researchers and engineers across computer vision, robotics, machine learning, and software engineering. • Document and communicate findings through technical reports, internal presentations, and (where appropriate) academic publications.
