The Role The Senior Lead IT Engineer is a technical leadership role responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and strategic direction of Lumen’s Software Asset Management (SAM) tools. This role serves as a subject matter expert and technical lead, driving stability, scalability, and security across critical infrastructure platforms, with a strong emphasis on Flexera One administration and server-based agent technologies. The Senior Lead IT Engineer partners closely with architecture, security, asset management, and operations teams to deliver reliable, compliant, and cost-effective IT solutions. Location This is a remote opportunity open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S. The Main Responsibilities - Administer, optimize, and support Flexera One / FlexNet Manager Suite (FNMS), SaaS Manager, and related Software Asset Management (SAM) tooling. - FNMS Agent Administration, including deployment, configuration, monitoring, upgrades, and lifecycle management. - Collaborate with Software Asset Management (SAM), Security, and Compliance teams to ensure accurate inventory, license compliance, and audit readiness. - Design and maintain server and agent-based architectures to support performance, scalability, and compliance requirements. - Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex infrastructure and agent-related incidents. - Serve as the technical lead for enterprise IT engineering initiatives, providing guidance, mentorship, and architectural direction. - Develop and enforce engineering standards, documentation, and operational runbooks. - Evaluate and implement automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency and system reliability. - Support change management activities, including impact analysis, testing, and deployment planning. - Assist in driving roadmap planning, technology evaluations, and proof-of-concept initiatives. What We Look For in a Candidate - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Minimum of 10+ years of professional software engineering experience in IT infrastructure or systems engineering roles. - Demonstrated hands-on expertise in SAM Tool Administration, including inventory, reconciliation, reporting, and integrations. - Strong experience with Server Agent Administration across all variations of Windows and Linux environments. - Deep understanding of server infrastructure, operating systems, and enterprise monitoring tools. - Experience supporting large-scale, distributed environments. - Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex, cross-platform issues. - Proficiency with scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python). - Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. - Experience working with ITSM processes (incident, problem, change, and configuration management). - Act as a trusted technical advisor and escalation point. - Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices. - Demonstrate ownership, accountability, and a continuous improvement mindset. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with Software Asset Management (SAM) and IT Asset Management (ITAM) practices. - Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and hybrid environments. - Experience with configuration management and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, SCCM, Intune, Chef, or Puppet). Compensation This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors. The Senior (Sr.) IT Systems Specialist is a hands-on position responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and compliant operation of IT systems in a regulated Life Sciences environment. This position provides day-to-day administration of infrastructure, network and end-user systems while delivering responsive, service-oriented technical support to employees across the organization. In addition to broad operational IT capability, this role is intended to bring greater depth of experience in supporting technology within a regulated GxP life sciences environment. The Sr. IT Systems Specialist will help ensure that IT systems remain secure, compliant, and audit-ready, with particular focus on validated systems, electronic records and signatures, data integrity, and applicable requirements such as 21 CFR Part 11. The role combines strong technical expertise with an understanding of IT compliance and data integrity requirements in regulated environments. The Sr. IT Systems Specialist works to maintain systems in a validated state, supports internal and external audits and ensures IT processes align with applicable regulatory and internal control requirements. This position also serves as a key operational resource within the IT function and provides backup support to the IT Manager to help maintain a stable, secure, and audit-ready technology environment. Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to): IT Operations & Network Support - Provide support for the SAB network, assisting with configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of IT systems. - Administer Mac/OS, Windows, Android and iOS, MDM. - Maintenance and configuration of 0365 Tennent - Ensure all systems, and applications are up to date, patched and secure. - Maintenance of Active Directory and Entra user accounts and security settings - Maintain up-to-date network diagrams and documentation to support regulatory reviews. - Network administration, assisting with configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of IT systems. Education, Experience and Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or a related field (preferred). - 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in IT compliance within a regulated industry (Life Sciences, Pharma, Biotech, or Medical Devices). - Demonstrated experience with validated systems, electronic records/e-signatures, and compliant change control processes preferred. - Hands-on experience with audits (internal, external, and regulatory). - Familiarity with SOX, NIST, and other IT control frameworks is a plus. - Experience with IT infrastructure, including Entra ID, Active Directory, MS365, switches, firewalls, and remote support tools. - Zoho ManageEngine ADAuditPlus and M365 Manager Plus - Strong understanding of compliance in validated systems and electronic data integrity. - Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to manage multiple priorities in a regulated environment while maintaining attention to detail.
