Word Processor I (Editor) Full-time SC15Clerical Emmitsburg, MD, Emmitsburg, MD, US Requisition ID: 1763 Salary Range:$18.97 To $18.97 Hourly Location: Emmitsburg, Maryland Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Hybrid position: Three (3) days onsite and Two (2) days remote) Position Status: Full-time, Hourly PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Course development and revisions to include: - Receive draft, handwritten, digital, or unformatted course materials to be proofed/edited as directed in accordance with AP Style manual. - Use format guidelines established, AP style manual, New Webster’s World College Dictionary, (APA as necessary) and format guidelines sheet set for each course. - Complete editorial checklist for each unit/module. - The product shall be completed within the established deadline as noted on job coversheet. - Edit/Proof correspondence, reports, brochures, proposals, schedules, rosters, and any other documents in support of NFA courses under development, revision, or updating (instructor lists, bio’s, meeting notes, EFOP papers, etc.) as directed. - All work will have a full AP edit completed unless otherwise stated. - Compare masters to print masters for NFA courses. - Perform printer’s page count on master and print master. Create new course folder with accurate title, acronym, date, printing/edition, etc. Make sure to add date/acronym to slide and exam test packets (for easier viewing in file cabinet). - Make copies when necessary of pilot offering Instructor Guides, Student Manuals, etc. - Perform light duties and other related duties as required and assigned. - Maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. Employee may be required to attend safety training relative to this position and report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer. - Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Associate degree in related field with two years of proofreading experience or High School diploma or GED with five (5) years proofreading experience. - Must be proficient using Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe. - Must have excellent English, written and interpersonal communication skills. - Strong organizational and time management skills are required to meet established deadlines. - Must possess a friendly, helpful, and customer-service oriented attitude. - Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training. Must be able to handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure, prioritize, and assume added responsibilities without being asked. - Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Role Description The Associate Managing Editor oversees journal editorial and/or production operations for client’s peer-reviewed journals from manuscript submission to publication. The Associate Managing Editor serves as the primary point of contact for client stakeholders and ensures that the work of the dedicated support team exceeds expectations for productivity, quality, and schedule adherence. The Associate Managing Editor may supervise one or more editorial associates. - Provide excellent customer service to all external and internal journal stakeholders (e.g., editors, authors, publishers, colleagues). - Ensure contractual requirements and service level agreements for assigned client workflows are met. - Oversee journal inbox and handle escalations. - Update and maintain accurate protocols for editorial workflows. - Train and manage support staff performing daily peer review, editorial, and/or production tasks. - Inform managers of staff errors and/or client feedback immediately and ensure that any issues which could impact customer satisfaction are resolved rapidly (internal escalations). - Be a proficient user of the manuscript management system, from workflow optimization to using system reports for monitoring timeliness and other indicators of journal health. - Utilize KGL Editorial’s cloud-based technology as a communication and productivity tool. - Proofread and refine correspondence and information going to journal stakeholders for grammar and clarity (e.g., decision letters, instructions for authors and reviewers). - Prepare agendas, complex system, or other reports, and/or presentations for editorial meetings. - Handle invited manuscripts and other special content workflows including special issues and supplements. - Administer social media. - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications - A minimum of 3 years working in the editorial office of a scholarly journal. - Knowledge of scholarly publishing processes and best practices. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Experience with one or more manuscript management systems (e.g., Editorial Manager, ScholarOne Manuscripts, eJournal Press). - Social media experience. - Proficiency with standard office technology (e.g., Microsoft Office, teleconferencing, SharePoint). - BA or BS degree required. Requirements - Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and changes in the industry landscape. Physical Requirements - General remote office environment (home office) involving intensive use of a high-end computer workstation for development and communication activities. - This position requires the incumbent to grasp objects utilizing manual dexterity including hand/finger coordination. - This position requires the incumbent to experience periods of prolonged sitting.
