Working at Atlassian Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. About the role We're looking for a senior full-stack engineer to support our DX team at Atlassian. Someone who's as comfortable diving into a Ruby on Rails codebase and raw SQL as they are crafting thoughtful, accessible UI in React and TailwindCSS. You'll work end-to-end on features: from shaping vague problem statements with product and design, to shipping high-quality code, to measuring impact and iterating quickly. What you'll do - Design, build, and maintain full-stack features using Ruby on Rails, React, and TailwindCSS. - Write performant raw SQL to power complex queries, reports, and data workflows. - Collaborate closely with product and design to shape problem statements, refine requirements, and propose pragmatic technical solutions when specs are incomplete or ambiguous. - Own projects end-to-end: architecture, implementation, self-QA, rollout, monitoring, and iteration based on customer and stakeholder feedback. - Hold a high bar for quality: write clear, maintainable code, comprehensive tests, and robust monitoring/alerting where appropriate. - Contribute to improving our engineering practices, tooling, and standards, especially around data correctness, reporting, and reliability. Your Background: - 5+ years of industry experience working as a Full Stack Engineer - Bachelor's or Master's degree with a preference for Computer Science degree - Experience crafting and implementing highly scalable and performant RESTful micro-services - Proficiency in using Ruby on Rails, React, and TailwindCSS. - Fluency in any one database technology (e.g. RDBMS like Oracle or Postgres and/or NoSQL like DynamoDB or Cassandra) - Real passion for collaboration and strong interpersonal and communication skills - Broad knowledge and understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS industry with hands-on experience of public cloud offerings (AWS, GAE, Azure) - Familiarity with cloud architecture patterns and an engineering discipline to produce software with quality Compensation At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. About the teamThe Foundations team builds and evolves the application-level infrastructure that powers Hex. We own the shared backend systems, frameworks, and primitives that other teams depend on—helping the company move faster while maintaining reliability, performance, and security. Our work spans APIs, realtime transport, storage frameworks, background processing, and internal tooling. Rather than shipping isolated features, we focus on creating durable systems that scale with the company and make product development easier for everyone. This role is centered on backend architecture and shared infrastructure, with responsibility for APIs, realtime communication, data access frameworks, job orchestration, and internal admin tooling. You’ll work closely with product engineering teams to understand their needs, then turn common patterns into robust, reusable systems. Our frontend is built with Typescript and React, using a combination of Apollo GraphQL and Redux for managing application state and data. On the backend, we also use Typescript to power an Express/Apollo GraphQL server that interacts with Postgres, Redis, and Kubernetes to manage our database and Python kernels. Our backend is tightly integrated with our infrastructure and CI/CD, where we use a combination of Terraform, Helm, and AWS to deploy and maintain our stack. In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off. The salary range for this role is: $215,000 - $270,000 The salary range shown may be a reflection of additional factors such as geographical location and skill ranges/levels we’re open to. Placement in the salary range will be decided upon completion of the interview process, taking into account factors like leaving room for growth, internal fairness & parity, your demonstrated skills, and the depth of your experience. Our Recruiting team will be able to provide more details during the interview process.
