We are seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Inpatient coder. Must have a varied background in IP coding, handling a wide array of specialties and trauma levels, teaching facility experience, and multi-specialties (Ortho, Cardiac, Neuro, OB/GYN, Med/Surg, etc.) I am not looking for 3-5 specific specialty areas, but someone well-rounded outside of General Medical/Surgery. Essential Job Functions - Responsible for abstracting, coding, sequencing, and interpreting clinical information from inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, pro-fee, and clinical medical records. - Responsible for assigning correct principal diagnoses, secondary diagnoses, and principal procedure and secondary procedure codes with attention to accurate sequencing. - Utilizes technical coding principals and DRG/APC reimbursement expertise to assign appropriate codes. - Abstracts and codes pertinent medical data into multiple software programs and/or encoders. Follows official coding guidelines to review and analyze health records. - Maintains compliance with external regulatory and accreditation requirements as well as state and federal regulations. - Extract pertinent data from the patient’s health record and determine appropriate coding for reports and billing documents. - Identifies codes for reporting medical services and procedures performed by physicians. Enters codes into various computer systems dependent upon the various clients. - Track and document productivity in specified systems and maintain productivity levels as defined by the client. - Maintain a 95% quality rating. - Perform duties in compliance with the Company’s policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to HIPAA and compliance. Description Will be a 6-9 month set contract need to support automation within the business office. Contract needs may extend longer. 100% remote role; prefer candidates that sit in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Open to candidates that sit in the Midwest. Hospital HB coding for Ambulatory surgery in all services areas (ortho, pain, wound, neuro, cardiac, etc.) is required for role. Must have hospital coding experience in surgery and wound service areas. The Outpatient Medical Coding role reviews inpatient and outpatient medical records for documentation, abstracting and analyzing. Assign all codes to the highest level of specificity following the current guidelines for ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS. Understand and properly apply modifiers, CCI edits, medical policy rules (e.g., LCD/NCD), etc., in compliance with payor regulations. This role will be using Epic and a stand alone encoder. Daily Duties: Assigns procedural codes according to coding conventions defined by the American Medical Association’s CPT manual, CMS, including the Correct Coding Initiative, Medicaid and other third-party payor policies as applicable. Assigns diagnosis codes according to the ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
