The Team: Upstart’s ASPL team is on a mission to provide effortless access to compelling auto-secured lending products. As the Senior Engineering Manager for ASPL, you will lead a high-impact engineering team responsible for increasing eligibility, improving conversion, and building new product capabilities that help Upstart serve a larger portion of the population. You will set execution priorities, remove blockers, and develop engineers to ship reliable, observable, and maintainable systems. How you’ll make an impact - Lead and develop a team of engineers working across borrower-facing flows, backend services, and platform capabilities that increase eligibility and reduce friction. - Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to define roadmaps, shape requirements, and deliver solutions that balance growth, customer experience, and risk. - Drive execution on cross-functional initiatives that expand access to auto-secured lending and enable new product capabilities. - Improve the speed, quality, and reliability of delivery by setting clear priorities, raising engineering standards, and building healthy execution mechanisms. - Use data to identify funnel bottlenecks, evaluate tradeoffs, and guide investments that improve conversion, automation, and operational efficiency. - Coach engineers and technical leaders, grow team capability over time, and build an inclusive team culture grounded in ownership and continuous improvement. Minimum Qualifications - 8+ years of experience building and operating production software systems, including distributed systems or cloud-based applications. - 3+ years of experience managing software engineers. - Experience leading cross-functional engineering initiatives from planning through production launch. - Experience working on customer-facing products with measurable business outcomes. - Experience partnering with product, design, and non-engineering stakeholders to deliver solutions in a fast-moving environment.
