Data Protection Team The Privacy & Data Protection Engineering (PDPE) organization at Netflix ensures responsible data use and provides guidance and tooling to manage data privacy across the company. PDPE is a cross-functional team comprising Privacy Engineering, Data Protection, and Privacy Infrastructure Engineering and is part of the larger Security, Privacy, and Assurance (SPA) organization. The Data Protection team focuses on developing policies on data collection and use with privacy as a foundational layer to enable Netflix’s rapidly growing businesses. Data Protection works internally within PDPE and with partner teams across Netflix to provide visibility and comprehensive insights into Netflix’s data assets and to define, build, and promote right-sized and right-timed policies, controls, and capabilities for data management across its lifecycle. Role We are looking for a Privacy Engineer to join our Data Protection team with an exciting mission of protecting all data at Netflix! You will work closely with security and privacy engineers, software and data engineers, product managers, legal, product and engineering leadership to design, develop, and maintain effective data handling guidelines and policies. In this role you will help drive forward the technical direction, strategies, and roadmap of the Data Protection Program. You will develop great technical documentation and facilitate alignment across cross-functional teams to ensure our guidance, tooling and practices are driving tangible data privacy improvements both in the management of personal information and accountability of our privacy program. This role will have a significant impact, ranging from protecting data at a massive scale to how Netflix engineers use data and data tools in their daily work. What You Will Do - Expand and advance the enterprise-wide data protection program with a strong focus on measurable outcomes - Evaluate new data collection and data usage practices for their impacts to privacy and data health, and develop policies that deliver value to the company - Work with engineering partners to develop requirements for software solutions to create automated approaches to align with above policies - Liaise with partners including legal and corporate functions, engineering, and business units, to identify how policies and tools need to adapt to changing business requirements - Translate internal assessments, emerging privacy regulations, and evolving guest expectations into clear guidelines, policies, business processes, and compliance standards - Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop reporting mechanisms to track and demonstrate overall effectiveness and business value of data protection solutions Desired Background - Strong understanding of privacy regulations and best practices and familiarity with privacy enhancing technologies - 5+ years in data management, privacy, or data governance - Experience in coordinating, guiding and facilitating the development of right sized data protection initiatives across internal stakeholders that meet internal business client goals. - Ability to leverage and implement privacy guiding principles through advocacy and/or tooling by developing strategies and principles for team and partners - Experience in evaluating end to end data life cycles to determine where positive impacts on risk reduction or business enablement can be implemented and driving to execution - Experience in managing high-visibility cross-functional initiatives - Excels at operating and making decisions in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment. - Ability to partner successfully across levels and functions supported by high quality communication and relationship skills - Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and an open-minded approach to problem-solving, fostering an inclusive and feedback-driven culture. - Strong organizational and project management skills to enable execution on objectives Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $400,000.00 - $680,000.00. This compensation range will vary based on location. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits.
