Position Overview We are seeking a highly organized and detail-driven Project Architect to lead the development of construction documents across a range of residential and light commercial projects. This role is ideal for an architect who genuinely loves the craft of drawing — someone who finds deep satisfaction in the precision of detailing, the choreography of consultant coordination, and the integrity of producing a set that is clear, elegant, buildable, and code-compliant. This position typically involves managing 2 to 3 projects simultaneously, including custom homes, remodels and additions, restaurant tenant improvements, and miscellaneous drafting or systems-development tasks. The ideal candidate thrives in both design-sensitive and technically demanding environments and takes pride in transforming strong design concepts into beautifully resolved construction documents. Key Responsibilities Construction Document Production • Lead the production and coordination of full construction document sets for 2 to 3 active projects simultaneously • Develop floor plans, roof plans, elevations, sections, details, and schedules from design models and redlines • Translate Revit-based design information into highly organized, code-compliant drawing sets • Ensure drawings clearly communicate design intent, constructability, and sequencing to contractors and consultants • Prepare drawing sets for city plan check, permit submission, and contractor pricing • Verify compliance with applicable residential and commercial building codes and local jurisdiction requirements Consultant Coordination • Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical consultants throughout all project phases • Update architectural plans, sections, and details as consultant drawings evolve • Integrate structural framing — including beams, posts, headers, hold-downs, steel framing, and cantilevers — into architectural sections and wall details for accurate field execution • Proactively identify and resolve consultant conflicts before they reach the field Technical Detailing • Produce clear and technically rigorous detailing for light wood-frame residential construction • Detail steel framing at large spans, cantilevers, and hillside conditions • Develop construction details for light gauge steel commercial tenant improvements • Support restaurant tenant improvement projects including interior layouts and limited exterior modifications Office Standards & Workflow Development • Contribute to the studio's architectural detail library by organizing and expanding reusable content • Create AutoCAD and Revit templates for various project types to improve consistency and speed • Improve documentation workflows and drawing standards across the studio • Assist with miscellaneous drafting and technical problem-solving as needed Project Types • High-end custom homes • Residential remodels and additions • Hillside and complex light wood-frame structures • Steel-supported cantilevers and long-span features • Restaurant tenant improvements • Miscellaneous drafting and technical systems work Required Skills & Experience • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD — this is the studio's primary production platform • Working knowledge of Revit for reading and translating design information into production documents • Demonstrated experience producing permit-ready and construction document sets • Deep understanding of light wood-frame construction, building sections, and wall assemblies • Experience detailing light gauge steel framing and structural integration • Solid working knowledge of residential and commercial building codes and local jurisdiction requirements • Proven ability to read, interpret, and coordinate structural, MEP, and consultant drawings • Excellent organization, file management, and drawing standards discipline • Experience with custom residential projects and/or restaurant tenant improvements preferred Ideal Candidate Qualities • Loves the art and discipline of architectural detailing — this is not a background task, it is the heart of the work • Finds genuine satisfaction in assembling drawing sets that are both technically rigorous and visually clear • Thinks deeply about how a building actually goes together from structure to finish • Cares equally about beauty, buildability, and code compliance • Highly organized and able to track multiple moving parts across several concurrent projects • Proactive in consultant coordination and capable of catching conflicts before they become field problems • Enjoys building systems, templates, and libraries that make the whole studio better over time • Strong communicator with contractors, consultants, and internal design teams • Takes ownership and pride in producing documents that reduce RFIs and field ambiguity
