Process Safety Engineer – Quantitative Risk

• Support our US PSM team in our growing QRA and facility siting group • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills with a consultative approach in supporting customer projects • Assignments may include all aspects of consequence modeling, and qualitative and quantitative risk assessment • Develop hazard identification, accidental release scenario, consequence modeling (dispersion, fire, explosion), frequency analysis, presentation of risk results, and report preparation • Additional assignments will include support of core process safety services

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years professional experience
  • BS or MS in Chemical Engineering (or related engineering field) and/or Process Safety
  • Project experience in consequence modeling (fire/explosion/toxic), QRA and facility siting
  • Experience with consequence modeling and risk integration tools, DNV Phast and Safeti or similar
  • Experience with application of the API RPs 752/753/756 for facility siting, and the AIChE CCPS Guidelines for Chemical Process Quantitative Risk Analysis
  • Ability and willingness to travel to US and international client locations (up to 50%)
  • Business development, including direct client interactions, developing proposals, and delivering presentations
  • Experience and/or expertise in other areas of Process Safety such as PHA (HAZOP/LOPA), PSM auditing, PSM/RMP regulations, SIL/SIS, etc. (preferred)
  • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling experience - FLACS, KFX, FDS, or similar (preferred)
  • Experience in the operations of oil and gas, chemical, LNG, petrochemical, renewables, hydrogen, and other industries (preferred)

The responsibilities include but are not limited to, risk assessments, communication plans, policies, procedures, training, and testing. In addition, the position will work with senior leadership, information, and technology (I&T) teams, emergency management leaders and business unit personnel. The position will assist in developing, maintaining, and enhancing the organizations Emergency Management (EM), Business Continuity (BC) and Disaster Recovery (DR) programs. This position will focus on business impact analysis data, business unit and information technology recovery strategies, crisis management plans, business continuity and disaster recovery plans, emergency preparedness response plans, and testing program strategies and metrics. *This is a remote/work from home position. Essential Job Functions - Responsible for the development and maintenance of a system approach to Emergency Management (EM), Continuity of Operations, (COOP), Business Continuity (BC) and Disaster Recovery (DR) programs. The position will focus on business impact analysis data, business unit and information technology recovery strategies, crisis management plans, business continuity and disaster recovery plans, emergency preparedness response plans, and testing program strategies and metrics. - Ensures that EM and BC program policies and standards are monitored for compliance and that controls are defined and implemented to ensure plans are maintained and exercised. - Manages the development and implementation of local system specific EM/BC planning to coordinate with existing industry methodologies and BSMH infrastructure standards, cybersecurity standards and policy. Disaster Recovery Plans must address three major elements of the recovery process: (1) the emergency response organization and procedures for reacting to and coordinating recovery efforts; (2) the recovery support procedures for restoring key information systems; and (3) the IS operational procedures for the continuation of critical business processes. The EM Program must address 4 core elements, risk, mitigation, response and recovery of emergency preparedness: Risk, assessment of emergency preparedness, communication plan, policies and procedures, and training and testing. - Coordinates and oversees programs to educate and raise awareness among BSMH leadership and workforce on EM/BC planning and response. Planning to include adherence to applicable BSMH policies (e.g., Business Continuity Management, Emergency Management, Cybersecurity, Privacy). - Assures records required for recovery are properly maintained in a Vital Records Program. - Continually builds knowledge and proficiency in Emergency Management & Business Continuity concepts and lifecycle & manage relationships with EM/BC/DR vendors. - Organizes needed functions and systems to provide business recovery planning methodologies to all levels of the company. This position will also be expected to coordinate reviews, analyze data, write new plans, and update existing business continuity, emergency management and disaster recovery plans. - Acts as the liaison between the Business and Information Technology teams, Protective Service teams and Emergency Management teams in outlining the objectives, identifying equipment requirements, essential personnel, ensuring the successful implementation, coordinating user recovery tests, and documenting test results. The manager will be expected to refine and lead the offsite IT and Business Recovery efforts associated with the successful recovery of the Company’s Primary or Alternate Data Centers. - Administers internal and external reviews of the company's production environments and services to ensure adherence to established Business Continuity Management and Emergency Management Program policies and standards. In addition, the candidate will work with external auditors, Internal Audit and Compliance groups to ensure BSHSI’s - Business Continuity Program and Emergency Management Program meets all audit requirements and regulations. - Manages their group’s budget, presentations to executive level management, and manages assigned personnel resources and consultants. The EM/BC Manager will also have major responsibilities in any actual disaster recovery effort including, but not limited to tracking and reporting progress on the recovery effort. - Demonstrates leadership qualities and be able to build consensus for their ideas with Executive Management and the Crisis Management Team. In addition, they will need the ability to visualize, architect, sponsor, and deliver new features / elements related to the BSHSI’s overall emergency response efforts.
