About The Role The Communications & Content Manager owns the operational execution and amplification of Backblaze’s content and PR programs. Working closely with the Director, Content & Creative, this role ensures PR, social, and content operations, including scheduling, reporting, and distribution, are supported with consistency and velocity. Working closely with the Technical Storytelling Manager and Senior Technical Editorial Manager, this role ensures content programs are managed, packaged, distributed, and supported across channels. What You'll Do: Social execution: - Manage social content calendar in coordination with third-party marketing agency and internal stakeholders. - Develop channel-appropriate, native social content to support campaigns. - Partner with Creative on visual identity and systems for optimizing social creative production. - Report on engagement and signal insights and recommend iterative improvements. PR and comms execution: - Drive PR agency execution on pitched content initiatives and announcements. - Coordinate executive participation in contributed content, interviews, and commentary. - Ensure flagship programs (e.g., Stats) are fully packaged for earned media. - Coordinate awards submissions, including SME contributions. - Report on media coverage, share-of-voice, and competitive signal. - Identify reactive PR opportunities aligned to narrative pillars. Content execution: - Manage editorial calendar in coordination with Technical Storytelling Manager and Senior Technical Editorial Manager. - Own the Brand, Executive, and Corporate content lane and develop content to support campaigns. - Report on content performance and production. Strategy & coordination: - Serve as the hub for brand campaign packaging and amplification, including drafting and distributing amplification content from key assets (pitching briefs, email sequences, day-of and long tail social campaigns, landing pages, sales collateral, etc.) - Partner with leadership to establish social, PR, and comms strategies aligned with business goals. - Own the overall management of our narrative calendars and cadences, and establish protocols for flagging resourcing needs, scheduling conflicts, and messaging alignment. AI influence and relationship building: - Increase Backblaze’s visibility and credibility in the AI ecosystem - Build meaningful relationships with builders, platforms, and influencers, including neoclouds, data suppliers and tooling platforms, dev communities, and founder communities. - Identify strategic co-marketing and partnership storytelling opportunities. - Serve as senior advisor to executives on external positioning. Strategic comms leadership: - Own and execute PR and communications strategy aligned to AI Supply and AI Demand pillars. - Partner with content leadership to shape quarterly communications themes. - Lead PR agency strategy, briefings, and prioritization. - Secure high-quality earned media placements and thought leadership opportunities. - Drive executive visibility in relevant publications and communities. Social identity and authority: - Establish Backblaze as a primary voice within AI infrastructure conversations happening in online spaces. - Shape social presence beyond promotional content into POV-driven engagement. - Guide executive and company-level social voice and overall strategy. - Identify reactive and proactive commentary opportunities. - Serve as crisis comms lead. - Monitor share of voice and competitive signal.
