Job Description

Manager, Indirect Tax

Wealthsimple

• Manage the end-to-end indirect tax compliance (GST/HST, QST, PST) across all applicable jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory deadlines • Support month-end and quarter-end close, including preparation of tax accruals, account reconciliations, forecasts and variance analysis • Identify and pursue ITC and ITR recovery opportunities; conduct risk assessments to surface and remediate material exposures • Manage relationships with external tax authorities, including preparation of audit responses and correspondence with CRA and provincial agencies • Provide indirect tax research and advisory support on new business initiatives, including product launches and corporate transactions • Manage multi-jurisdictional tax registrations and nexus monitoring, adapting to fast expansions into new product lines and geographic markets • Monitor indirect tax legislative and regulatory developments and assess the impact on the organization • Maintain and improve internal controls, tax policies, and compliance procedures • Collaborate with Finance and technology teams to ensure accurate tax coding and support systems and process improvements, including AI automation initiatives

Job Requirements

  • CPA designation required; completion of the CPA In-Depth GST/HST Program or equivalent indirect tax training preferred
  • 5–7 years of indirect tax experience, with exposure to both public accounting and public company industry environments preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian indirect tax regimes including GST/HST, QST, PST, RST
  • Practical experience with financial institution (FI) and Selected Listed Financial Institution (SLFI) indirect tax rules, including the Special Attribution Method (SAM), is required
  • Solid understanding of cross-border and imported supply rules
  • Excellent tax technical and research skills, with the ability to balance commercial objectives and tax risk exposures
  • Proficient with tax software, ERP systems and AI technology (e.g. Netsuite, Claude)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented and communicates well
  • Corporate income tax knowledge is an asset
