Guided by deep experience and a commitment to innovation, we are entering a new phase focused on what we do best: partnering with government to build high-performing, scalable community health systems that deliver the health care services families need. Our forthcoming 2027–2030 strategy is designed to meet this moment. It centres on end-to-end performance optimisation—strengthening the foundations of government-led systems, institutionalising and scaling proven solutions, and developing new approaches to address emerging challenges. This includes harnessing the power of digital tools, data, and cutting-edge technologies such as AI to better support community health workers (CHWs) and the systems around them. Working in close partnership with governments, we aim to ensure CHWs are equipped with the tools, supervision, and data-driven insights needed to deliver high-quality care at scale. By 2030, Living Goods will support governments in three core countries to enable 50,000 CHWs to reach 25 million people—contributing to at least a 10% reduction in under-five and maternal mortality. About the Role: Living Goods is seeking a visionary Director of Communications to shape and drive its global communications strategy, including leading the launch of a refreshed brand and unified messaging framework aligned with the organization’s new strategic plan. This role calls for a proactive, hands-on strategic leader who can collaborate across teams to elevate the organization’s brand, amplify its external presence, and ensure consistency of messaging. The Director will play a central role in positioning Living Goods as a thought leader in advancing community health, working closely with internal teams and external partners to highlight the impact of our approaches. Reporting directly to the Chief of External Relations, this senior leadership position will serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team and a key driver in strengthening Living Goods’ visibility and influence worldwide. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Communications - Develop and execute a strategic communications plan that elevates visibility, strengthens brand awareness, and amplifies influence across global, Africa regional, and country-level markets, including Kenya, Uganda, and Burkina Faso. - Oversee and guide organizational messaging and positioning, ensuring high-quality on-brand content across events, digital, video, and print. - Lead the development of high-impact external communications products, including speeches, publications, reports, and op-eds. - Shape and advance Living Goods’ thought leadership strategy in close collaboration with program, digital health, and advocacy teams. - Ensure consistent application of brand guidelines and visual identity across all platforms. - Equip staff with the training and tools needed to confidently and consistently represent Living Goods’ work and strategy. - Direct digital and media engagement strategies, including social media, media relations, and performance monitoring to maximize reach and impact. - Develop and maintain comprehensive crisis communications and reputation management plans to proactively address potential challenges. Team Leadership - Lead and mentor a team of communications professionals who support global, regional, internal, and country strategic communications. - Collaborate with the People and Culture team to oversee key internal communications channels—providing strategic guidance to ensure clear, consistent communication with staff, while boosting engagement and knowledge sharing. - Manage relationships with external partners and vendors, including consultants for photography, editing, and graphic design, ensuring high-quality outputs aligned with organizational standards. Essential Qualifications, Experience, & Attributes: - A demonstrable commitment to international development and global health with at least 15 years of experience in communications with progressive levels of responsibility in public health or another international development sector. - At least 5 years of leading high-performing communications teams in matrixed organizations; skilled at inspiring, coaching, and developing talent while fostering collaboration across diverse teams. - Ability to combine big-picture strategic thinking with tactical execution, delivering measurable outcomes while maintaining attention to detail and quality. - Proven experience leading the management of organizational brands, including brand positioning, messaging frameworks, and visual identity, and ensuring consistent application across all internal and external channels. - Extensive hands-on experience designing and executing communications tools and strategies across print, digital, social media, video, and graphic design. Proficient in the MS Office Suite and basic experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud preferred but not required. - Proven success translating complex technical content into clear, compelling messages tailored for diverse audiences. - Forward-thinking, problem-solving professional who thrives on formulating new strategies, improving processes, and inspiring others to embrace communications excellence. - Skilled at representing the organization externally with media, donors, government partners, and other stakeholders. - English fluency is required; French and/or Kiswahili language skills are a plus. - An exceptional relationship builder, increasing rapport, trust, and transparency across a diverse and growing community of internal and external stakeholders.
