As an Engineering Manager, you’ll direct an enthusiastic team crafting secure, scalable, and high-impact services that enable real businesses internationally. - Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 5-10 engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, and career development - Own end-to-end delivery of projects - planning, execution, risk management, and shipping with quality - Partner with Product, Build, and collaborators to define priorities, scope, and trade-offs - Drive engineering guidelines, code quality, and scalable system build - Hire, onboard, and retain top engineering talent - Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-trust team culture - Track team metrics (velocity, quality, cycle time) and continuously improve processes - Participate in build reviews and technical discussions - guide decisions without necessarily coding daily - Handle blocking issues, remove blockers, and ensure operational stability Your experience should include... - 10+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in an engineering management role - Proven track record of building, growing, and retaining high-performing engineering teams - Experience delivering complex projects end-to-end on time and with quality - Strong technical foundation – able to participate in build reviews and guide architectural decisions - Excellent communication skills - can communicate effectively with engineers, leadership, and cross-functional partners - Experience with agile methodologies, sprint planning, and continuous improvement - Demonstrated ability to manage performance, resolve conflicts, and have difficult conversations - Ownership approach - takes accountability for outcomes and drives solutions You might also have... - Experience scaling teams or building teams from scratch - Background in building security platforms, SIEM, or threat intelligence systems - Experience with ServiceNow integrations or workflows - Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments - Prior experience managing remote or distributed teams We've got your back... The ideal Development Manager is a self-starter with peer-to-peer fundraising experience who can quickly establish relationships with existing supporters, stay focused and grounded under pressure, is flexible, adaptable, and excited to contribute to the mission to make ALS livable and cure it. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Implement a comprehensive plan to meet an income portfolio goal of $250,000+ that could include a variety of fundraising events, including our signature event, the Sacramento Walk to Defeat ALS. - Responsible for the recruitment, stewardship, and retention of volunteer leaders, event participants, including team captains, sponsors and donors, and event committee chairs and members. - Manage logistical details for all assigned events, including budget management, site planning, permitting, and vendor coordination. - Partner with internal teams, including Marketing, Care Services and Advancement, to ensure integrated campaigns. - Represent the ALS Association at community events, cultivating awareness and support for the mission. PAY TRANSPARENCY: The ALS Association’s pay range for this position begins at the California State minimum salary of $70,304 annually. The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets. The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location.
