• Own the multi-year technical vision and roadmap for Instacart’s core data platform (storage, compute, streaming, orchestration, analytical serving). • Architect the ownership strategy for the data platform, determining build vs. buy including managed services vs. open-source self-hosting. • Drive the architecture and delivery of the open lakehouse, including unified table format, compute engine portfolio, and storage governance. • Own the architecture for streaming data, event-driven pipelines, and real-time serving for critical use cases (Ads, Fraud, ML). • Lead the adoption, application, and cultural integration of AI/LLM tools across the data platform lifecycle. • Serve as the senior technical voice, setting standards for system design and reliability. • Collaborate with Data Science, ML Platform, Ads Infra, Product Eng, Finance Eng, and Security to translate needs into reliable, self-serve infrastructure.

• Own and expand backend implementation and architecture of our visualization tooling suite (e.g., data mining quality assurance, operations and log ingestion, annotation pipelines, telemetry viewers). • Collaborate closely with ML, frontend, UX, data services, data mining, and data annotation teams to align tooling with real-world workflows • Support scalable, performance APIs and services for visual development, debugging, and annotation systems. • Help mature internal standards, observability, and deployment processes for our backend stack • Maintain and mature the team’s CI/CD infrastructure and process.
