Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or similar field
  • 3 - 4 years of experience in technical writing or procedural writing
  • Proven ability to write clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation
  • Familiarity with use of CMS and version control programs, preferably Git
  • Familiarity with use of Atlassian tools for project management
  • Familiarity with word processing tools, including GSuite, Word, and Adobe
  • Basic understanding of cURL, Markdown, and Python
  • Basic understanding of RESTful API standards, including JSON output
  • Ability to work multiple projects and prioritize appropriately in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail, with particular attention paid to proofreading skills and ability to catch and correct obscure text in technical writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with B2B SaaS industry standards and expectations

Role Description The CDC Foundation is seeking a candidate for a full-time Regional Technical Advisor position to support the implementation of projects which aim to monitor the sales and use of e-cigarettes and other tobacco products at the National and State level. The project aims to generate scientifically defensible and rapidly available data to assess the effectiveness of e-cigarette and tobacco flavor restriction policies. The Monitoring E-cigarette Use Among Youth and Young Adults program has been underway since 2019 with program activities that include analyzing retail sales data for e-cigarettes and other tobacco products; and implementing surveys to collect timely estimates of e-cigarette use and related behaviors among youth and young adults. The Regional Technical Advisor will serve as the focal point for managing relationships across governmental and nongovernmental organizations within their respective region, or regarding specific evaluation topics. The position will lead and contribute to local, state, regional or national level data analysis and interpretation and identify opportunities for data to action in states based on collaborative contextualization of the data. The position will also contribute to developing program evaluations. Strong communication and teamwork skills are of absolute importance to succeed in this role. A candidate with expertise in evaluation of tobacco prevention programs is strongly desired. This position is eligible for a fully remote work agreement for U.S. based candidates. Travel is required up to 10% of the time. Responsibilities - Lead and contribute to state and regional data analysis and interpretation for states within region using related statistical software packages. - Oversee data monitoring and data quality assurances for specified data set on a monthly and quarterly basis. - Provide technical assistance to state governmental and nongovernmental organizations to understand, interpret and contextualize tobacco product retail sales and usage data for states within their region. - Advise, partner with and support state governmental and nongovernmental organizations to strengthen competencies for improved monitoring of flavored tobacco products and public health programming in tobacco control and cessation. - Lead or support the production of technical reports, graphs, charts, tables and narrative material to be used in presentations by CDC Foundation at regional meetings, national conferences and partner engagements. - Lead or support the development of comprehensive reports, manuscripts, abstracts, posters and/or presentations that include findings monthly and quarterly analysis for use by CDC Foundation and supported state governmental and nongovernmental organizations. - Develop and maintain topic area subject matter expertise in statistical analysis, data interpretation as well as tobacco control and cessation. - Collaborate with CDC Foundation and state governmental and nongovernmental organizations to support quantitative data analyses and project management tasks associated with other e-cigarette monitoring projects, as assigned. - Design and implement evaluation activities for the project, ensuring alignment with overall program goals and evidence-based evaluation frameworks. This includes developing logic models, evaluation plans and data collection protocols for evaluating program activities. - Analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative evaluation findings and translate results into evaluation reports, summaries and presentations. Develop internal reports and external publications that communicate key findings clearly to scientific and nonscientific audiences. - Support the project on other duties as assigned. - Some domestic travel may be required (approximately 10%). Qualifications - Master’s degree (or higher) in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, public health, or related field. - Minimum of five years of experience cleaning, managing and analyzing data. Experience with retail sales data or other types of raw data strongly preferred. - Minimum of two to five years of experience working with regional collaboratives, state governmental and/or nongovernmental organizations. - Experience in tobacco control evaluation strongly desired. - Strong data management and analysis skills, including experience applying statistical techniques to nontraditional types of data. Ability to maintain data quality assurance and perform quality control checks of data analysis is strongly preferred. - Experience conducting statistical analyses in Stata strongly preferred, or SAS or other statistical software. - Experience in developing, disseminating and translating scientific writing products for diverse audiences, including abstracts, conference presentations, manuscripts and reports. - Experience engaging and working collaboratively with diverse partners, including local, state, regional and national governmental agencies, advocacy groups and public health practitioners to engage in strategic partnerships. - Strong project management skills, including experience navigating competing priorities, meeting facilitation, problem solving and conflict management. - Experience or understanding of tobacco control and cessation efforts. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail. - Outstanding interpersonal skills; congenial, energetic and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues and partners in a hybrid working environment. - Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in working with colleagues and diverse partners.
