Role Description We’re looking for a mid-level Software Engineer (Frontend/Backend) to support the development and scaling of our frontend/backend systems and services. This role is hands-on and delivery-focused, working primarily with TypeScript, NodeJS, ReactJS, GraphQL, and SQL/PHP, and collaborating closely with frontend and mobile engineers. Reporting to the Lead Engineer, you’ll contribute to frontend & backend development, API design, and DevOps workflows while growing your skills in system design, performance optimisation, and cloud infrastructure. This role suits an engineer who is comfortable working independently on problems and eager to deepen their technical capability. We’re open to this role being fully remote or hybrid, based out of our Mornington HQ. Qualifications - 3–5 years professional experience in backend or full stack development. - Strong experience with NodeJS, GraphQL, and SQL (MySQL). - Working knowledge of PHP for integrations or legacy systems. - Working knowledge of ReactJS (and ideally NextJS) for frontend apps. - Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Git-based workflows (e.g. GitHub Actions). - Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP. - Solid understanding of backend security, testing practices, and performance optimisation. - Experience writing unit and integration tests. • Architect, build, and evolve a serverless backend stack in AWS, primarily utilizing Python 3.10+, Lambda, CDK, DynamoDB, Cloudfront, SNS, SQS, S3, and other related services to support customer-facing applications and internal operational workflows. • Lead the design, implementation, and integration of our REST API, event processors, services, and underlying datastores that deliver meaningful data to and from customers resulting from their use of the Happy Ring. • Establish and guide backend engineering best practices across system design, observability, reliability, performance, maintainability, and security. • Provide technical leadership to other team members, contractors, and partners building on these systems. • Drive architectural decisions and cross-functional technical alignment across software, mobile, web, eCommerce, operations, and partner-facing systems. • Help ensure regulatory compliance and best practices are maintained across these systems and the mechanisms used to access them, including M2M authentication, authorization, and login workflows. • Identify technical risks, scalability bottlenecks, and platform gaps early, and proactively drive solutions that support near-term commercial growth and long-term platform needs.
