Backend Engineer

Branch International

• Design, build, and maintain customer-facing and internal products and APIs, following best practices around security, performance, reliability, and maintainability. • Contribute to technical and product decisions by providing thoughtful input, raising trade-offs, and helping execute on agreed-upon solutions. • Collaborate with engineers across functional areas (Android, Machine Learning, Data, DevOps, etc.) to support shared systems and identify opportunities for improvement. • Participate in on-call rotations and operational work, helping diagnose issues, improve system reliability, and reduce future incidents. • Continuously improve existing systems, by refactoring code, reducing technical debt, and improving developer productivity.

Job Requirements

  • 3–8 years of experience designing, coding, testing, and shipping backend software for web-based or mobile products.
  • Experience working closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver features and improvements aligned with business needs.
  • Solid understanding of software development fundamentals, including computer science basics, data structures, APIs, databases, and modern development practices.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code and ship quality software in a timely manner.
  • Comfortable learning and contributing across adjacent technical areas such as frontend, Android/iOS, DevOps, data, or infrastructure, as needed.
  • Approaches problems pragmatically, balancing technical correctness, product requirements, and delivery timelines to arrive at effective solutions.
  • Takes ownership of work, proactively identifying issues, improving systems, and following through to completion with guidance when needed.
  • Strong collaborator and communicator.
  • Values feedback, contributes constructively to discussions, and works effectively within a team.

This team is responsible for the technology and systems that power the Payment, Fraud, and Account Management domains of the Gametime marketplace. This is a senior individual contributor (IC4) position for engineers who are domain experts, lead complex initiatives across teams, and raise the technical bar through mentorship and architectural influence. You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Design, Data, and business stakeholders to shape the future of our platform. Key Responsibilities - Lead the architecture and implementation of high-performance Golang microservices for e-commerce checkout, account management, and fraud mitigation. - Own the technical design and execution of cross-functional projects, ensuring long-term scalability, maintainability, and performance. - Build, test, monitor, and maintain mission-critical integrations and infrastructure. - Explore and help implement AI-powered capabilities within our systems and workflows, including agentic tools and intelligent automation. - Develop reliable external and internal APIs supporting up to 1 million RPM. - Collaborate with Product, Design, Data to shape technical solutions that align with customer and business needs. - Mentor engineers across the team by sharing knowledge, reviewing code, and encouraging engineering excellence. - Drive the end-to-end execution of projects, from initial concept to production. - Identify and drive improvements in system reliability, scalability, observability, and deployment pipelines. - Promote a high-performing, inclusive engineering culture through tech talks, code quality standards, and thought leadership.
