Senior Tax Consultant, Property Tax – Strategic Valuation Services
DMA - DuCharme, McMillen & Associates
• Conduct complex personal property compliance projects and assessment reviews of machinery and equipment for industrial manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, communication, and energy property • Assist with implementation of tax savings recommendations and strategies • Review annual personal property tax returns and reconciliations • Review personal property fixed asset listings for misclassified assets • Review state and local laws, rules, and regulations • Conduct physical inspections of manufacturing, communication, energy, mining, and oil & gas facilities and meet with production managers at client locations • Meet with client financial and accounting personnel to review policies and procedures • Prepare analysis detailing issues and opportunities for property tax savings • Produce and edit reports of findings along with the tax manager to ensure accuracy • Meet with clients to discuss implementation of report of finding and address liabilities • Assist client tax department personnel with personal property filings and changes in methodology • Assist client in filing appeals, amended annual returns and refund requests • Assist in negotiations for assessment reductions before assessing authorities • Represent and manage clients during formal appeals
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Industrial Engineering, or related field, coursework in Appraisal desired
- 3-5 years’ experience as an Associate Tax Consultant (or similar type of position)
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license

• Take ownership of North American (U.S. and Canada) federal, state and local tax compliance, reporting, and planning. • Support monthly provisions, coordinate with external advisors, and help scale the company’s tax processes as it grows. • Ensure timely and accurate compliance of all indirect tax filings (Sales, Hotel/Lodging GST/HST/QST, Gross Receipts & Excise). • Lead registrations, co-manage tax policy and product taxability decisions with legal team, and own end-to-end filings, payments, and reconciliations across all North American filings. • Prepare and review U.S. and Canada federal, state, and provincial income tax returns, estimated payments, and extensions. • Partner with engineering/product teams to identify qualifying activities, gather substantiation, and prepare defensible U.S. R&D (Form 6765) and Canadian SR&ED (T661/T2SCH31) claims. • Liaise with external advisors (Avalara, Accounting Firms and similar) and auditors to support compliance and reporting needs. • Support legal team in coordinating end-to-end responses to any federal, state & local examinations—manage IDRs, data pulls, and walkthroughs; preparing substantiation; and interfacing with auditors, advisors, and counsel. • Prepare monthly indirect tax provision and annual income tax provision under ASC 450 and 740. • Support tax disclosures for financial statements and management reporting. • Work with the Legal team to monitor legislative changes in tax law and assess implications for Hopper’s business. • Research hotel partner and/or customer tax issues and provide recommendations to the business. • Build proactive relationships with Legal, Product, Finance/FP&A, and Hotel teams to embed tax into day-to-day decisions, surface risks/opportunities early, and strategic initiatives. • Liaise with the Tax Engineering team to implement and QA changes to Hopper’s tax logic for travel transactions, providing tax technical input to ensure accurate tax determination across complex booking flows. • Develop and support implementation of tools and automation to streamline tax workflows. • Develop scalable processes for compliance as the company expands into new jurisdictions. • Maintain documentation and controls to support audits and internal governance.
